“DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up the Amsterdam-Detroit flight this week demonstrated that ‘the system worked.’”
Not surprising; Janet’s always been much more interested in thwarting imaginary domestic terrorists, than the real thing.
Update: I doubt Napolitano’s going to earn that proverbial solid B+ from the Professor, no matter how much he grades on a curve.

I think what she was trying to say is that this was not caused by some low level security person screwing up on that particular day. The system operated as it was designed to operate.
Which may be true, but doesn’t change the fact that it was a ridiculous point to make, since it ignores the fact that the system design was revealed to be dangerously inadequate.
