Last week, when I was at the supermarket checkout line, I came across this cover of Time:

Time_Magazine_11-9-09

Main Street hates Wall Street? Isn’t such a broad “lumper” of a question rather specious to begin with? Despite the best efforts of the president, plenty of people on Main Street are still rather prudent investors, keeping their stockbroker, financial planner or Charles Schwab representative  gainfully employed, if not quite as well off as he was a few years ago. But otherwise, along with Time’s helpful cover-scribbles, doesn’t the question sort of answer itself? When you demonize a group of businessmen like that, isn’t the answer obvious?

Which brings us to

newsweek_11-23-09

And yes, that’s an actual photo, unlike some used by Newsweek affiliates. As of this summer, Newsweek’s newsstand sales were down to about 66,000 readers an issue. (In contrast, Matt Drudge, Glenn Reynolds and the guys at Hot Air have already shot way past that number before they wake up in the morning.) But I’m not sure why I’m supposed to look at that photo of Palin and automatically assume there’s a problem — except that she’s been demonized by the MSM for the last 14 months or so. (Employing armies of “fact checkers” who otherwise apparently have been bereft of work since, oh, mid-January or so.)

Which oddly enough makes sense. For this to be true….

….Then apostates must be demonized. Keep flucking that chicken, legacy media.

“We can’t understand it! We call them stupid, we call them ignorant, we call them racist, we call them evil … and the public STILL doesn’t like us! What’s wrong with them?”

  2. 2. Michael Lonie

Judging by the continual demonization they subject her to, Sarah Palin is a big problem for the Democrats and their lapdogs in the media. The frivolous lawsuits against her that drove her from the Alaska governmor’s office were intended to bankrupt her and her family so she could no longer be active in politics. I do believe that barratry, malicious legal harassment, is a crime, but try to get Democrats convicted for dirty political tactics like that. It would be like convicting a dog for barking.

The only problem Palin represents for the GOP is that she energizes the base and reminds folks that the GOP does well when it advocates conservative policies, and when its politicians in office act in a conservative manner. The GOP lost in 2006 because it had spent so much effort imitating the Dems in tax and spend policies, and some of its people had imitated Democrats’ corruption as well. In other words, she threatens the RINOs and others who would be content to act as tax collectors for the Welfare State while spending careers in cozy sincures while the Dems govern the country, and drive it into the ground.

I don’t think the MSM has clued into the fact that we are NOT stupid and evil and we DO look at them now and laugh at them like a bad comedy act. When I come across any statement or story in the MSM question it and I doubt it. WE are now the media’s fact checkers. They can’t be trusted and they wonder why we are no longer reading, watching, buying?

These people can’t finish going down the drain fast enough. We’ll be fine without them, we really will.

Ms. Palin scares them to death.

Don’t put it past the Obots and their minions to bankroll Huckabee again.

I recognize the Newsweek photo of Gov. Palin from her online interview in Runners World. The interview was very nice; non-partisan and stuck to running without an snide asides.

  7. 7. Jeffersonian

I’m not a huge Palin for Prez booster, but it’s so obvious that she’s the bee in every left-wing bonnet, media and non-media alike, it’s hard not to like her just for the enemies she’s collected.

That said, with the exception of George Will’s heterodox column, Newsweek has degenerated into a politicized version of People. Absolutely unreadable.

Sarah Palin is a leader. She’s an attractive woman and a politician with conservative values. And Sarah is going to continue to kick liberals in the butt over and over and be a FORCE in American Politics in 2010, 2012 and beyond.

Why do they demonize her? Because she scares the hell out of them! Sarah Palin may in fact become our first woman President some day. If so, she’ll be the antithesis of the Marxist Obama.

No ‘zine with Evan Thomas at the top of its masthead can possibly expect to be taken seriously.

I am touched by the concern Newsweek seems to have for the future of the GOP.
Their logic seems to run this way: Sarah will be so popular that the Republicans under her guidance will waltz into power, and then they will experience the difficulties that Barry and his zanies are having with the the task of running the country.
Better the country should speed down the drain with the present crew! Or they are hoping the democrat Congress will impose a fine for those who don’t subscribe to Newsweek.

If, in the future, everyone will be Emmanuel Goldstein for 15 minutes, I finally have a real complaint about Sarah Palin. Her 15 minutes of hate long ago expired.

  12. 12. Frantz Fanon is Obama's daddy

What does Newsweek mean “now”? When were they ever not socialists?

  13. 13. Charlie-AK

Wow! You guys just don’t get it. She is a huge problem for the Republicans too and they are doing more demonization then the left! Where do you think all the leaks are coming from. And they have a point! The woman has a problem telling the truth and to stand up for her because she is conservative like us is not very bright. Her book is filled with lies, ouright lies, at least about her work in Alaska. I don’t care about the personal nonsense. But if you lived here, you would know it’s a pile of crap and not is all right upstairs. Plus to harp about the campaign now? It is petty!

And yes I happen to have read the book. No I’m not a liberal. I just am not blinded by her as far to many are. This image she has fabricated of herself as main st mom is pure bull and anyone who knows the Palins knows this.

Stop demonizing the left! You are all doing exactly what you accuse them of. Many Republicans and conservatives see her for the self-serving fraud she is.

  14. 14. SDN

Sorry, Charlie. We really don’t care if RINOs don’t like Sarah. We don’t like RINOs, if anything, even more than we don’t like Leftards. An honest enemy is far better than the traitor inside the walls.

  15. 15. Alex Bensky

It’s not that leftists hate her that is the problem, it’s why they do and how they express it. And you know if she were a liberal subjected to right-wing calumny like this they’d be raising a stink.

She wouldn’t have been my choice for v-p and I have no idea if I’ll ever consider seriously voting for her, but as I mentioned on a Facebook thread, the liberal trope may be that she’s a perky ignoramus. But she has a history of dealing with people who underestimate her and she rolls right over them.

    RE Charly-AK @ 14

Book’s not released yet, you haven’t read it.

    Everyone else–DON’T FEED THE TROLL

  17. Am I the only one who saw the Newsweek cover and thought of the logo for East Germany’s ruling Socialist Unity Party?

Imagine if that cover had been printed the first week of November…

  18. 18. Lili von Shtupp

66k readership per issue of Newsweek? There are in-flight magazines that do better than that. BTW, how many of that total are “professional (aka 90% off the cover price)” subscriptions?

  19. 19. Clyde

Shouldn’t they just be honest and change their name to Newspeak, since all they’re doing is parroting Obama’s Ministry of Truth anyway?

  20. 20. mac

Haven’t read Newsweak in several decades. Fully expect that I will never do so again. When it, and that other trash collection, Time, bite the dust for good, the event will be long overdue. I am grateful every day for the internet. These bastards that used to have a stranglehold on information have had their grip broken. They have no more credibility than Baghdad Bob now, and 2010 is going to see both the complete end of their influence and a massive repudiation of the Democrat party.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving group, and being thrown out of power is a heck of a lot less than they deserve. A treason trial and a firing squad is in order for some of them.

    Ed,

Thanks for being a few months behind me!

Welcome to the Democrats have become INGSOC train!

Ed, I watched that video. Good job exposing the revisionism that “corrects” history to keep it in line with current claims.

Speaking of that, the greatest “revisionist” in histoy is our current President. Obama got elected precisely because he can pretend that the events of an entire century of human history never took place.

In the 20th century, we saw a global scale demonstration of the utter folly of the left’s two animating ideas: socialism and pacifism. We saw that socialism didn’t raise the masses out of poverty — it starved the masses to death by the millions where it was tried consistently and impoverished millions more where it was only tried partially.

Likewise, we saw that pacifism did not bring about world peace — rather, it invited the horrific aggressions of two world wars, resulting in the slaughter of millions of innocent people and the enslavement under communist dictatorship of millions more.

Obama’s popularity on the left (and with Democrats and liberals in general) stems from his ability to ignore these facts and pitch socialism and pacifism as if they are something “new” and “hopeful” — and do so with a straight face. Only a world-class prevaricator can pull that off — and only a hater of America can hope to succeed in forcing us to swallow a massive new dose of these poisons.

    Whoa!!! Doubleplusgood cover!!

  24. 24. Chuck Moss

I mean Doubleplusgood PALIN cover! She can join my Inner Party any time.

  25. 25. John

I just *love* how *&^%ing bananas the left wing media gets over Palin. They talk about her like she’s some monster from outer space.

The thing that REALLY drives them nuts about her? She’s a regular person.

  26. 26. Chazz

The flight is boarding and the aircraft is almost full. You, a democrat, are in a window seat and one of the two remaining empty seats is next to yours. You see two women coming down the isle, one is Hillary Clinton and one is Sarah Palin. Be honest, who do you hope takes the seat next to you? Some democrats are having a tough time reconciling their prejudices with reality.
