As O’Rourke said in his new book, Driving Like Crazy:

“Pity the poor American car when Congress and the White House get through with it,” he said. “A light-weight vehicle with a small carbon footprint using alternative energy and renewable resources to operate in a sustainable way– When I was a kid, we called it a Schwinn.”

Actually, Honda’s new Segway-meets-unicycle toy vehicle is starting to make the Schwinn seem pretty cool by comparison:

    Heh… this reminds me of the cartoon showing the stages of evolution, except backwards. You start with a man and end up with a lemur.
