Big Momma Is Watching You!

August 9, 2009 - 7:06 pm - by Ed Driscoll

As a follow-up to the previous post, a blogger at the HuffPo screeches, “White House Warns Rush: Nazi Talk Puts You On ‘Thin Ice’”:

The White House struck back hard on Friday against conservative pundits and town hall protesters who have compared the President to Hitler and his policies to Nazism, saying that the critics are “on thin ice” and should “take that temperature down a bit.”

Asked about the breakout of boisterous and occasionally violent protests at Democratic town hall events throughout the country, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs declared that the demonstrators were showing less civility and manners than his six-year-old child.

“Behave yourselves like your mom would probably tell you to do,” Gibbs said when asked what piece of advice he would give to the demonstrators.

That last sentence neatly if inadvertently encapsulates the transformation of the left over the last forty years in a nutshell. From “don’t trust anybody over 30″ and “do your own thing” to a leftwing apparatchik summoning the very spirit of the Nanny State: Big Momma Is Watching You!

Meanwhile, the left of the previous eight years (or nearly the last 70 years, if you include Nazi-themed taunts directed at the GOP and conservatives from FDR, Harry Truman, Gore Vidal, et al) could not be reached for comment.

Related: The above quoted HuffPo blogger is Sam Stein; the American Power blog spots him apparently doing a bit of airbrushing to another of his posts, thanks to Pamela of Atlas Shrugs: “Pamela Geller Gets Results! Atlas Shrugs Hammers Huffington Post on Allegations of Nazi Salute in Denver!”

Update: Mark Steyn, linking to our previous post on Rush calling out the left for their Liberal Fascism (to borrow  H.G. Wells’ approving term for the concept), links to Sam Stein’s approval of Robert Gibbs’ Big Mommy moment. Mark writes, “Congressman Timeserver isn’t my mom. And, if he were, I’d tell him to quit stealing my paper-route money.”

Pamela would like to see a lawsuit aimed at these vicious and deceitful bloggers. One can only hope that this can be initiated in the very near future. It really is the only effective way to stop the vicious nonsense. These culprits are not going to cease misbehaving until forced to pay a price in a court of law. The reason is very simple: this slanderous form of propaganda is very successful in the long run! Many people don’t bother to thoroughly read and study the issues. The constant repetition of a possible Nazi salute is enough for them to be eventually persuaded that “there might be some truth to it.” Either sue—or eventually it becomes “fact!” The same is also true, I might add, concerning the lie that Sarah Palin and her husband are getting a divorce.

Allow me to offer an example of a fib that is now accepted as fact by countless Americans: J. Edgar Hoover was a cross dresser. The evidence supporting this slander simply does not exist. And yet, the constant repetition of the lie has resulted it evolving into the “truth.” Don’t believe me? Well, ask a few friends what they think. The odds are that most are convinced it’s a well established fact.

Spoken like the arrogant Democrat fascists they are.
