Ransom Note Editing At The Daily Show

April 18, 2009 - 11:48 am - by Ed Driscoll

As Robert Stacy McCain described last month, the left’s frequently used ransom note editing technique involves “Selective quotation used by political correctoids to dehumanize conservative critics of multicultural groupthink.”

And it’s not just for multiculti groupthink anymore! Found via Hot Air, you can see it employed economically, here:

Another word for what Cody Willard of Fox Business News is describing in the above video is “corporatism”, as Steven Malanga explains over at Real Clear Politics, and in his interview with me today on PJM Political. If you missed it on Sirius-XM, we’ll have the podcast version online later today. [Update: It's now online, here--Ed] In the meantime, don’t miss PJM Political host Steve Green’s latest article, “Media Hacks Sandbag the Teabaggers.”

Republicans are too stupid and defensive to fight back against Democrat slurs. Democrats know they can accuse a Republican of just about anything, no matter how false, and the Republican will do a pathetic job of defending himself.

Why don’t Republicans counterattack? Take Leftards to task on left-wing racism (really the only sort), socialism, hypocrisy, tax dodging, siding with terrorists, etc. I find that if you go on OFFENSE against leftards, they flee in great cowardice.

    So go on OFFENSE, damnit.

As a parting shot, give any leftard a vein-popping stroke by showing them this hilarious picture of how leftism makes women ugly. This is market-tested to maximize lefty blood-pressure, while is still funny to normal people.

It doesn’t even have to be an attack. Simply standing up for decency would solve a lot of problems. Having the courage to speak up when a Pelosi or Reid says something scurrilous about conservatives, and making a point of not working with that person would curb bad behavior.

Our problem is elected officials are afraid if being the nail that sticks out. There’s little reward for standing up on principle, but lots of trouble for calling attention to yourself.

Of course, this is why Republicans are in the minority.

  3. 3. Wu-Tang

By not fighting back, fiscal conservaties are letting the left set the narrative for the sheeple. The media will successfully make the average person think the ‘Tea Parties’ are KKK rallies (even though the KKK was heavily tied to the Democrats all along).

The right is no match for the information machinery of the left.

That is how myths start. Read about the 10 biggest myths in America, which average people accept as fact, despite the contrary evidence in the real world. All of these are left-wing propaganda successes. Get ready for more left-wing myths to live under.

“Simply standing up for decency would solve a lot of problems. ”

That is where you are letting them get the better of you. Leftists no longer care for human decency. It does not sway them. You can’t appeal to the decency of a leftist any more than you can appeal to the decency of a 7-year-old who really wants what you have.

Counter-attack, however, works. Leftists are so unaccustomed to counter-attacks that they are ill-equipped to fight it.

Try it, and see. They will flee with the cowardice of a rabbit.

I have two suggestions to counter the left.

One is to cancel your print media and cable subscriptions. This will take dollars away from their propaganda machine. Now is a particularly good time to hurt them. At least cancel until 2010 election is over.

The second is to attend every local and state political meeting of elected officials that you can. FORCE them to act responsibly. Don’t accept stimulus money if it is going to cause future debt in your community or state.

We have far more power at the local and state levels than at the national level.

Someone should start a blog to capture and report conservative citizens experiences with local and state officials.

There is power in numbers and transparency.

The problem is, conservatives have jobs, families, and friends.

Leftists have none of these things. They really don’t.

So which side is able to spend more time on ideological agendae?

If you ever wondered why the 20% that is hard left has so much power over the 80% who is not, remember that the 20% can spend 100% of their time, while the remaining 80% can spend only 10-30% of their time.

Thus, the left has more person-hours at their disposal, despite fewer people.

Print media is easy to cancel, since the same content is online.

Cable is harder, even if you don’t watch TV. My Comcast broadband is bundled with my cable. There is no money saved in disconnecting the cable, as the fee cannot be separated from the BB fee.

  8. Hello Wu Tang,

You can unbundle Comcast Internet access from Comcast Cable TV. We did it here in Silicon Valley. Gotta be persistent about it cause they don’t want to loose the Cable TV fee.

Mention DSL and the particular price point you are looking at with DSL – you WILL be suprised. You will probably also get the new customer discount.

  9. The PJ Media audience could learn more about propaganda-editing techniques by watching the sci-fi tv-series Babylon 5′s episode “The Illusion of Truth” (Season 4, Episode 8)

The viewer watches both what the ISN reporters film and what they hear & see. Later the viewer watches what the ISN reporter actually reports. The magic of editing and narration is that your grandmother or your one-year old sugar & spice daughter can be made into the devil’s spawn.

This was a subtle but truly stunning sci-fi episode for documenting the documentarian’s power

As with a recent NYT’s smear job – an MSM outlet distorts, the victim’s correction is blogged, MSM [may/may not] issue retraction on p22A of tomorrow’s paper. With no consequence to them.

“All this has happened before and will happen again. And again. And again.”

The Left has established a Ministry of Information, through information brokers and entertainers and cultual icons. And their propaganda is solidified into “conventional wisdom” by those susceptible to an Appeal to Conformity – the ones who parrot PCBS to appear hip and cool.

And we continue to fight MiniInfo with words. In venues they control. Wake me when we decide to shape the battlefield.

  11. 11. Wu-Tang

“Wake me when we decide to shape the battlefield.”

Indeed. Conservatives let leftists set all the rules. Conservatives have even been tricked into calling leftists ‘liberals’ and ‘progressives’.

Leftists hurl the ‘racism’ slur, and conservatives defend themselves pathetically. Why don’t conservatives attack leftists back for the slurs against Bobby Jindal and Condi Rice?

A few years ago, Fox News aired what was supposed to be a conservative “Daily Show” type program, called “The Half-Hour News Hour.”

As much as I wanted to like it, it was extremely painful to watch, because it was so bad.

Some of the flaws that come to mind:

    * Jon Stewart was a comedian who happens to be liberal. Except for Dennis Miller, the folks at Fox are conservatives who were trying to be comedians.

    * “The Daily Show’s” ability to produce topical humor almost every day shows a talent that “Half Hour News Hour” lacked. The Fox program aired once a week, and recycled old jokes to appeal to conservatives.

    * “The Daily Show” airs on Comedy Central, which people are already watching because of shows like “South Park.” “Half Hour News Hour” aired on Fox News Channel, which meant it was preaching to the faithful. In my opinion, it also damaged the credibility of “Fox News,” by demonstrating an intentionally conservative bias; thus (rightfully) providing more fodder for critics of Fox News.

    RM3 Frisker FTN:

Another Babylon 5 episode dealing with media bias, which currently is available on-line, is Season 2′s “And Now For A Word.” It’s not as harsh as “Illusion of Truth,” but then the civil war hadn’t started yet.

Unfortunately, Season 4 isn’t available on-line yet, so folks are going to have to get the DVD collection to see “Illusion of Truth.”

As you might remember, the reporter’s name in “Illusion of Truth” was Dan Randall.

Whew, what a relief! And I just thought this nitwit thought Democrats were fascists. Apparently the whole US government is fascist, which is a totally non-nutty thing to think.

  15. Bill,

    I blame H.G. Wells.

  16. 16. what???

I am a person who loves intelligent debate, based on facts that are clearly presented. That is why I will never visit this site again. Blaming the left for doing something that the right invented and perfected is laughable. You know, like running up deficits. Reagan tripled the national debt. Yes he did. Look it up. No amount of denial can overcome the facts.

  17. #18, aka “What???”

Who’s denying it? Although, who controlled Congress in the 1980s?

Did you notice that, unlike what the Daily Show was attempting to portray, Cody Willard and the Tea Partiers were blaming both Democrats and Republicans last week? (See also link in comment directly above yours.) But then, I can understand why, as someone concerned with the national debt, you’re probably not a big fan of either party right now, as well.
