The original version of the above John McCain Web ad from July of 2008 was quickly pulled, apparently because Frankie Valli’s record company complained about the use of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” underneath the clips. The McCain campaign quickly substituted a generic, presumably royalty free instrumental with plenty of syrupy sax playing, as a replacement. But perhaps the original use of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” and the Obama-related connection registered in the subconscious memory of an NBC producer. Or more likely, it’s a purely synchronistic coincidence; in any case, the song reappeared today, propping up (in every sense of the word) a segment featuring Michelle Obama. In any case, you can’t make this up!
As the song “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” played over slow-motion video of Michelle Obama, NBC’s Dawna Friesen, on Tuesday’s “Today” show, eagerly awaited the arrival of the Obamas in London, for the G20 summit, as she gushed: “Yes, her husband is, of course, the big star of the show, but this is Michelle Obama’s first foray on to the global stage as First Lady. And you can bet that her every move, her every fashion decision will be dissected and analyzed, especially when the couple go to meet the Queen. But she’s got a lot of good will on her side.”
And like her husband, a lot of friends at NBC, as the McCain camp tried to point out last year–with or without Frankie Valli’s help.
Be grateful this is as far as it goes. When Hillary was first lady she inspired “The Hillary Journal”, a political mag which not only idolized her but had articles like “Are Women with Short Hair Smarter?”
I’ll take some Michelle love over that any day.
Michelle Obama is an intellectual lightweight. Can anyone point to even one brilliant insight provided by this woman? She is so incredibly shallow. The adulation Mrs. Obama is receiving from the elites only proves how low the standards have deteriorated at our so-called best universities.
Great! MO’s downmarket style will fit well in the company of a Queen.
