Biden’s EPA Rules ‘Hurt Working-Class Americans’

The recently released environmental restrictions on gas-powered vehicles from the Biden administration are just one more way for Democrats to make private transportation unaffordable and impossible for ordinary American citizens.

Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued new regulations based on the fake climate “crisis” to promote electric vehicles (EVs) and restrict gas-powered cars. Sure, EV batteries are toxic and rely on abusive child labor for mining, which is often controlled by Communist China. Carbon is necessary for all living things, and there is no climate crisis — that is why alarmists have been wrong in their predictions for over 50 years now. But the restrictions will likely hurt small businesses and make private transportation more difficult, and that is enough to make any Democrat authoritarian happy.

On March 20, the Biden EPA excitedly “announced final national pollution standards for passenger cars, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty vehicles for model years 2027 through 2032 and beyond. These standards will avoid more than 7 billion tons of carbon emissions and provide nearly $100 billion of annual net benefits to society.” As usual, the Biden administration is as full of toxic garbage as an EV battery. These restrictions are not going to provide monetary benefits to most Americans — quite the opposite.

Two Heritage Foundation experts slammed the EPA rules as hurting American citizens and businesses. Diana Furchtgott-Roth, director of the Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment, and Herbert and Joyce Morgan Fellow in Energy and Environmental Policy, was one.

“This rule will hurt working-class Americans, small businesses, and farmers by effectively banning the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles in America—while having practically no effect on global temperatures,” she noted. This is not surprising, since data indicates there has not been global warming for more than eight years.

“Despite subsidies and tax credits, electric vehicles are only 7% of new car sales, primarily bought by higher earners as an additional vehicle,” Furchtgott-Roth noted. “EVs are unsuitable for most Americans because they are more expensive, take two hours to recharge, and they lose power and range when it’s cold, as many saw last winter.” As always, the Biden administration is harming people instead of helping them.

“It is not social justice for the Biden administration to take away affordable transportation that gets people to work, to school, and on vacation with their families—it’s irresponsible,” Furchtgott-Roth ended.

Ryan Walker, executive vice president of Heritage Action, also criticized the EPA regulations:

Using unreasonable regulations to force gas-powered vehicles out of the market hurts hardworking families who are already struggling to afford groceries and utilities because of Biden’s policies. This rule will make cars and everyday travel even more expensive for those families while increasing our dependence on our number one adversary: China. Americans have had enough. More than 246,000 people fought back during the public comment period—including thousands of Heritage Action’s grassroots partners—and told the government that Biden’s out-of-touch energy policies are making life more difficult and less affordable. He should listen to the people and abandon this rule.

Unfortunately, the Biden administration never listens to the people. That might interfere with the pursuit of a leftist, Marxist, unconstitutional utopia.
