What the Democratic Party Platform Really Tells Us About Obama and Israel
Many political criticisms, particularly during an election year, are subjective and can be challenged. Has something been taken out of context? A claim misunderstood? A word twisted? What’s special about analyzing the Democratic Party platform over Israel is that it is easy to take the text and show how support for Israel has been reduced, in some cases shockingly so.
This is the draft platform and it was written by experts. The problem is the identity of those experts. This platform is a combination of “we love Israel” rhetoric (put in by the politicians?) with some serious policy problems (put in by their advisors?).
The Democratic response has been denial. Oh, no, there is nothing new or different and the platform corresponds with standard U.S. policy. The first half of that statement is a lie; the second half is technically true but in some ways it shows the replacement of the traditional over-promising on Israel with what might be called the standard historical State Department line. The base line, then, has been pulled back. If you start out promising the kid a pony, you’ve got to produce something impressive; if your initial offer is a grammar textbook, one can expect less to be delivered in the end.
Moreover, this is not some case of working with the left-of-center in Israeli politics. The key problems with this platform go against the Israeli consensus, not just Likud preferences. Finally, while more amusing than damaging, there’s a lot of bragging about things attributed to Obama that are either standard U.S. policy under his predecessors or due to bipartisan action in Congress.
But here’s the thing that upset me just as much — the title of the section under which Israel appears: “Strengthening Alliances, Expanding Partnerships, and Reinvigorating International Institutions.” There is only one sentence about all the Middle Eastern countries other than Israel! It is of vital importance for U.S. interests, and for Israel too, that the United States continues to maintain good cooperation with a dozen specific Arab states. The platform is an insult to America’s Arab allies, who have been dissed by Obama as he has tended to help or support their enemies.
Here I’ll focus on the Israel section:
The Middle East. President Obama and the Democratic Party maintain an unshakable commitment to Israel’s security. A strong and secure Israel is vital to the United States not simply because we share strategic interests, but also because we share common values. For this reason, despite budgetary constraints, the President has worked with Congress to increase security assistance to Israel every single year since taking office, providing nearly $10 billion in the past three years. The administration has also worked to ensure Israel’s qualitative military edge in the region. And we have deepened defense cooperation — including funding the Iron Dome system — to help Israel address its most pressing threats, including the growing danger posed by rockets and missiles emanating from the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. The President’s consistent support for Israel’s right to defend itself and his steadfast opposition to any attempt to delegitimize Israel on the world stage are further evidence of our enduring commitment to Israel’s security.
It is precisely because of this commitment that President Obama and the Democratic Party seek peace between Israelis and Palestinians. A just and lasting Israeli-Palestinian accord, producing two states for two peoples, would contribute to regional stability and help sustain Israel’s identity as a Jewish and democratic state. At the same time, the President has made clear that there will be no lasting peace unless Israel’s security concerns are met. President Obama will continue to press Arab states to reach out to Israel. We will continue to support Israel’s peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan, which have been pillars of peace and stability in the region for many years. And even as the President and the Democratic Party continue to encourage all parties to be resolute in the pursuit of peace, we will insist that any Palestinian partner must recognize Israel’s right to exist, reject violence, and adhere to existing agreements.
Sounds pretty good. But consider the following issues:
– Jerusalem is not mentioned at all. In previous platforms, the Democrats supported the idea of Jerusalem being and remaining Israel’s capital and an undivided city. The platform may adhere to U.S. official policy but not to the party’s historic position and not to the promises Obama made to Jewish voters at AIPAC and elsewhere.
This switch has made headlines in Israel, with even left-wingers angry and upset. ‘
Note: After a nasty internal fight, language about Jerusalem being the capital of Israel was put into the platform. (The word “God” was also restored.) But the vote was clearly fraudulent since it required a two-thirds’ majority to make the amendment and a majority voted against. The vote was held three times and with the majority opposing each time the chairman just lied and said it was adopted. In other words, the majority of Democratic delegates opposed recognizing Jerusalem–not united Jerusalem even!–as Israel’s capital. But it is important to understand that the claim that Obama personally intervened to put in references to Jerusalem and God is clearly a lie. Why? Because if that had happened it would have been announced at the convention, Obama would have benefited politically and the delegates would have voted overwhelmingly for–rather than mostly against–the amendment.
– Terms of a peace agreement. Previous platforms have clearly stated that Palestinian refugees should be resettled in a state of Palestine. The Palestinian Authority’s demand that all Palestinians who want to do so with any historical claim to having been there before 1948 can go and live in Israel (“the right of return”) is not explicitly rejected in the new platform as it was in old ones. This is a very serious matter for all Israeli parties because it is seen as evidence that the Palestinians don’t want a two-state solution but the destruction of Israel by flooding it with millions of Palestinians. By no longer explicitly rejecting this notion, the platform removes support for Israel on a critical issue.
– There is no explicit reference to the Gaza Strip and Hamas, except for the anti-rocket system. Previously, the Democratic platform called for isolating Hamas. Obama undermined this by demanding a reduction in Israeli sanctions after the flotilla incident. By helping a new Muslim Brotherhood government take power in Egypt — a regime allied to Hamas — Obama has made this the most dangerous front for Israel. The Democratic platform suggests that the party recognizes no specific danger in Hamas.
– There is no reference to Hizballah and its threat to Israel from Lebanon, again except for the anti-rocket system. This threat led to a war in 2006 and poses a constant terrorist threat.
In other words, this is part of an overall pattern of playing down the threat of revolutionary Islamism or the idea that the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hizballah, and other Salafists and jihadists pose some big problem.
On a number of points, the party tries to take credit for just continuing historic policies or for bipartisan things everyone supported, aid and military cooperation specifically.
For me, the most offensive passage is this one:
The President’s consistent support for Israel’s right to defend itself and his steadfast opposition to any attempt to delegitimize Israel on the world stage are further evidence of our enduring commitment to Israel’s security.
In fact, no president has done less about fighting the delegitimization of Israel by his own statements and actions than has Obama. And in some cases, especially regarding Gaza, he has not really supported Israel’s right to defend itself in practice. I will leave the Iran issue and U.S. behavior in the UN for your own evaluation regarding this point, but one could compile a long list of items in each case.
Regarding the “peace process,” Obama’s pressing Arab states to move toward peace with Israel lasted a couple of weeks and was never a serious, sustained policy. He has literally never criticized the Palestinian Authority and its behavior nor has he ever pressed them very hard — that kind of thing is reserved exclusively for the Democratic platform.
As for defending the Egypt-Israel peace treaty, while Obama did make some gesture to help secure an Egyptian pull-back last month, to portray him as helping to preserve that document is a joke.
Finally, past Democratic platforms have clearly taken Israel’s side, making it clear that they viewed Israel as the party sincerely trying to resolve the dispute and the other side as obstructing a solution. Despite some of its language, this platform is basically neutral. Yes, it highlights burdens on the Palestinians rather than on Israel, but it gives no hint as to why there has been no progress toward peace. This may be more understandable in a U.S. government document and Obama is in fact the president, but this is the party platform. Historically, the Democratic Party — pressed by members of Congress — wanted to show that it was on Israel’s side. Who better than Bill Clinton, even though he doesn’t tell the truth about it today, who saw in the 1990s how the Palestinian side sabotaged peace and the Arab states didn’t help?
Yet this is a party dominated by a top-down group far more to the left, less friendly to Israel, run more by the Progressive Caucus types in Congress, and using “experts” who are often openly hostile to Israel. They put in the boilerplate to keep the suckers — and party moderates — happy, but also subtly signal that they don’t mean it.
I will analyze the platform’s broader view of the region in another article, but again note that except for a vague promise of support for the Persian Gulf Arab states to defend themselves, the platform sees no other “alliances” or “partnerships” other than Israel. This section is thus just to titillate Jewish and pro-Israel voters. If they read it closely it would have the opposite effect.

From what I’ve learned about Obama’s past, it’s obvious he spent a lot of time with Jew haters and America haters. He can’t take a positive approach to Israel just like he can’t on America because it’s not in his nature. If he gets another 4 years I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t veto another Palestinian UN bid. He’s a third world man trying to run a first world country and he’s slowly sinking our great nation. I think it’s time for him to step aside, amateur hour is over in the White House and we need a serious candidate that won’t sink the economy any deeper and one that actually understands foreign policy and won’t wet the appetite of the Arabs to devour Israel.
“He’s a third world man trying to run a first world country……” Alex Braverman, thank you. You cleverly articulated a devastating truth.
The first go around the Islamist-in-Chief had to hide – as much as possible – his anti-Israel animus. However, this time he is running a no-holds-barred campaign.
As such, he has little to lose, preferring (as a political calculus, and personal one too) to play to his hard left base, the segment he is most aligned with, deep within his anti-Zionist heart.
‘More Hell Unleashed By The Islamist-in-Chief…Smack On Israel’s Border’ – google ‘Adina Kutnicki’ (9/4/12)and it will pop up.
Aren’t these party “platforms” somewhat pointless and irrelevant? It’s not like we have factions competing to identify positions their candidates will be bound to follow. The conventions are just a bit campaign commercial.
In a real sense you are right but what people think is an effective “campaign commercial” indicates what they think and what they think they can get away with. Also remember the people who wrote the platform are also administration advisors–this is not like the Republican platform. it is very clearly the platform of a government writing semi-officially.
They are testing the waters. If they get re elected and have stated their hatred for Israel, their open denial of G_d’s existence, then my friends, it will be very very very ugly.
Rome, you have seen nothing yet.
It was a trifecta platform: Deny God; Abandon Israel; Publically fund infanticide.
They’ve pretty much laid it out there. They’ve also been pretty brazen in the last few months at challenging (and showing their contempt for) the first amendment by publically going after the Catholic church.
No matter which way you look at it it’s going to get interesting.
Does “no president” include Eisenhower? It would be interesting to see Ike’s views and actions compared with Obama’s. Then again, Ike never pretended to be Israel’s best friend to ever occupy the White House.
a new book by MIchael Doran will deal with this issue and he argues that Eisenhower’s views were somewhat different than have been portrayed. From my work in the archives I think Eisenhower realized by April 1957 that he had made a bad mistake in the treatment of Israel in the Suez crisis.
In one of his novels (The Hope?) Herman Wouk depicts Eisenhower as contacting Johnson in May 1967 and urging support for Israel. Wouk lived for a long time in DC and had contacts with many insiders to research his WWII novels (he insists that the history in them is accurate) . Any idea whether this is correct?
The platform almost dares American Jewish supporters of Israel to vote against Obama. The subliminal message is, “we will openly proclaim our hostility to Israel, and we bet that you’ll still pull the lever for our man.” Obama did the same thing with blacks and gay marriage awhile back, almost challenging them to vote Republican.
Of course, we know that neither group will quit the fold.
Put another way:
James Baker: “f**k the Jews, they don’t vote for us anyway”.
DNC 2012: “f**k the Jews, they’ll vote for us anyway”.
Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!!! We have a winner….nuff said. However sad, but true, like a chicken voting for Col Sanders, but it is what it is.
Not this Jew.
“no president has done more to do less about fighting the delegitimization of Israel by his own statements and actions than has Obama. ”
Yes, this is what a high Administration official told my synagogue shortly after the inauguration: Obama would support Israel militarily but do nothing to support Israel on the ideological front. Since Israel has no representation in many countries and anti-Americanism is linked to anti-Zionism the result is increased anti-Americanism world-wide.
To this the Administration has no answer – save maybe, secretly, to cut Israel loose entirely.
I think a core part of a 2nd term Obama presidency will be to sign a nonaggression pact with Iran, ie the Dempsey-Ahmadinejad treaty modeled on the Molotov- von Ribbentrop treaty of 1939, where Israel takes the place of Poland. Obama will then establish a coalition of the willing-Iran, Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia as an axis against Israel. Given the rapprochement between Egypt and Iran, and Egypt purchasing German submarines, this axis is already developing
This is the result of the leftward tilt of the univeristy professors and the subversion of middle east studies by the Saudis since the 1960′s. We now have a group of bureaucrat’s , advisors and experts steeped in antiIsrael propaganda. It will take a generation to undo the damage. Returning vets from Muslim countries will help expose the bullshit taught by these “experts”. The David project will also help .
President Incomplete has a long history of swell dinners with Rashid Khalidi, a tape held hostage by the LA Times that will not be released, lest we see with our own eyes what made Ali Abuminah so hopeful, he went to sit in pews for 20 years that denigrated Jews and idolized Louis Farrakhan, he sent Robert Malley to visit the Middle East as an “expert” (who met with Hamas)…this is NOT just an empty chair, it is an electric chair for Israel’s “guilty” Likud proponents, with Obama’s fingerprints on the switch.
Democrats are masters at parsing words and putting on masks to hide what they are up to. The small c communists who own this Party lock, stock and barrel thinly veil their contempt for Bibi and sometimes not even that.
They lie about their intentions on domestic policy with impunity and absolute cover by their Propaganda and Lies Ministry. But, they are much more cloak than dagger on foreign policy. EVERYTHING they do is cloaked and hidden from view. (except when they are leaking national security secrets as a campaign trick or treat…the treat is thrown to the Daily Duranty, the trick is to then scurry beneath their rocks and hide from responsibility)
President Incomplete doesn’t like Israel, but he hates Likud and Bibi. We don’t need an open mic and Sarkozy to tell us that. We just need to secure the release of the hostage tape that the LA Times is keeping from us. Or…maybe his transcripts and college records that Stanley Kurtz has shown repeatedly…hold a number of open secrets into Obama’s thinking.
We won’t get either. The Propaganda and Lies Ministry is a front for President Incomplete and his small c communist cronies. And academia is a hiding place for every manner of traitor alive.
President Incomplete doesn’t give a damn about Jerusalem. Why would he? He doesn’t give a damn about 3/4 of America.
“Daily Duranty” and “Academia is a hiding place for every manner of traitor alive” are BRILLIANT.
The Duranty jibe shows a strong historical grounding.
My compliments!
Obama has been such a jerk to Israel in public (he thought he was being so clever) that Netanyahu had to publically humiliate him in front of the whole world (Best day of my life! I really thought his head was going to explode!) just to get him to back off the 1967 border thing.
A number of my Gentile friends have asked me recently “how can Jews vote for Obama”. Good question with no answer…
There is indeed an answer and it crystalizes not only why some Jews will vote for Obama but why so many of my kinsmen continue to slavishly support a party that no loner deserves support- They are Jews that have abandoned Judaism.
They are no longer moored to the ethical, intellectual and cultural foundation that has kept Judaism alive for four thousand years. Keeping The Sabbath, eating only Kosher food, daily prayer and hundreds of other aspects of Judaism have simply been abandoned.
Technically some are indeed Jews according to Jewish Law. Many others are not now or have ever been Jews even though they refer to themselves as Jews. They are the product of a business that turns Gentile into Jew with no change of behavior or belief. They give the rest of us a bad name.
It is no accident that the biggest support for conservative politicians is found in the areas populated by Jews who practice Judaism. It has always been so.
The more Jewish a person lives the more that person is likely to be voting for Mitt Romney.
Many people are born Americans but it takes effort and sacrifice to be a good American.
Being a good Jew is no different.
I understand this. Thank you for the simple answer.

Pretty amazing that Jewish Americans are standing by as Obama brazenly parades his intent to cozy up to the Muslim Brotherhood. Never in history has there been a “sell out” of this magnitude done in the light of day with American Jews standing silently nodding their heads in Agreeement. What happens when “they come for them.” Sickening behavior but Israel take heart because there are many non-jews who support you and will fight for you to the end. In a short time we hope to be rid of this Obama and he will be relegated to the dustbin of history for his disgraceful behavior along with the trecherous Hillary Clinton and her in house spy Huma!
Can you imagine what the islamists will do to the Christian and Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem when/if they take over? Remember when they bleu up the 2 ancient huge Buddha’s and everyone gasped and that was all. They were a religious treasure and that is why they had to be destroyed. So you can imagine what they will do to precious and holy sites of the people they hate.
Could be worse. They could be a little more slick and oily. We need them to come out more and more with what they think. They need to be the enemies they are.
The fact is in totalitarian states you get screwed over by your enemies. In democracies you tend to get screwed over by your friends who needed your vote.
Maybe next time they can put in a plank that says something like “we promote and support domestic awareness by American Jews that their opinions are seen by the world and noted. We ask that they work within the party framework and refrain from all self-identification and overt Zionist ideas in order to facilitate the great work of our march towards world peace. Progressive Americans and the world are watching the American Jewish community and it is in their self-interest to notice that we are watching….and waiting….and watching some more.”
Yup. Your last paragraph captures their actual thought very well. And this PC is practiced in places like the Bay Area, even (or especially?) in companies. I am thinking of some of the hi-tech firms in which I worked. Queries about whether being Jewish means you support Israel, having to react to hostile posters on cube walls, and being tested in the face of remarks and so on.
Well, this is a turning point in that those liberal Jews who might wake up have all the data they need to do so. And those who don’t probably will not.
Larry, how do Bay Area tech firms deal with Israeli ones, with which they must necessarily do business these days?
0bama’s a very clever liar. He’s evil lying Muslim commie sc um that no sane or civilized person could fail to oppose, which tells you how desperate our country’s situation is and how utterly hopeless, apart from God’s intervention, the future of the Dem party truly i8s. God would be entirely justified to put us all to death for our lawless fascist degeneracy epitomized in the Dem mascot.
As a close admirer of Israel since my first visit in 1977 as a volunteer at Kibbutz Erez I am not at all surprised by the turn of events at this late hour. I’ve always warned Israel against trusting my country for any peace or security.
Israel put all her eggs in the Superpower Basket assuming her Pimp could deliver.
This idolatry has been pervasive among the Jewish people since they replaced the God of Moses to dance around the golden calf.
Israel’s big mistake again was listening to their latest golden calf on the Potomac on appeasement and Jewish land in exchange for rockets and jihad, and completely ignoring the warnings of the Holy One of Israel.
America is not Israel’s God and this ISRAEL will learn the hard and painful way.
Anti-Semitism and hate for Israel is coming from the left and the right wing of the ugly U.S. vulture.
Lets not forget how Bush 1 treated Israel with his abusive Sec of State James Baker and how Bush 2 always restrained Israel, kept them from defeating Hezbollah, was responsible for the creation of Hamastan,Gaza and kept them from wiping out Hamas in the Gaza war of 2009 before the Obamination took office.
We know how Bush 2 loved to hold hands with his lover, Saudi king Faisal while always rewarding the Palestinians for their bad behavior.
Lets face it ,decadent, bankrupt, collapsing America is NOT Israel’s God and Israel needs to cut the leash from this bully empire that is always trampling it’s sovereignty under their counterfeit 2 state final solution peace scam.
Your right about that, but I think your exaggerating when you say Israel thinks America is it’s God. Israel will do what’s important for it’s survival in the end and not what America dictates. As for the rest, I’m just as upset that Israel gets told to hold back against her enemies, but that’s part of being allies with America. It’s not such a bad trade off when you think about it because Israel get’s to be on the good side of one of the world’s super powers and that’s a good thing to have when the entire world is against you. Unlike the Palestinian Arabs that enjoy world support, they paraded the streets and gave out candy to kids when American’s were killed on 9/11. I just hope this schmuck doesn’t get another 4 years because looking at the middle east we are in for some troubling times.
I’m just as upset that Israel gets told to hold back against her enemies, but that’s part of being vassal slaves in this Banana Republic ‘throwaway’ fiefdom with America.
We don’t mind the bully empire trampling our sovereignty since we lost any dignity or self respect long ago.
It’s not such a bad trade off when you think about it because Jews are used to being slaves under another Pharaoh. We get to be on the roll on command poodles on the tight leash of one of the world’s bankrupt, amoral, collapsing super powers not long for this earth and slavery and abuse from false friends and backstabbing allies, that’s a rebuke and judgment thing to have from the Almighty when we ignore our God and chase after lying idols.
Exodus 23
“You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”
Well, the American people don’t want Israel as a vassel state. You are also correct that Israel’s biggest problem is their insistance upon being a secular society first and have ignored their covenant with G_d.
But Ezekiel 38-39 has yet to happen an it’s going to happen in a way that the world will see the hand of G-d. You’d think people would repent at that point, but like with Pharaoh G-d will harden people’s hearts and they will actually be in open rebellion against Him.
Things will get really interesting after that.
Your right it’s not ideal at all and I think one of the biggest misunderstood forces in Jewish history and world history is antisemitism. That’s where the relationship with the USA falters because every President fails to understand the depth of hatred and intensity it carries. Antisemitism is abundant in the Muslim/Arab world and that’s just a fact. I wish all Jews could follow in the way of Torah life because than “one would chase a thousand, two would chase ten thousand.” Unfortunately we don’t live the best way and instead have to manage things to the best of our ability.
‘every President fails to understand ‘
So what you are saying here is that the American voters keep electing clueless idiots.
The reality is the voters chasing after their latest idol du jour keep getting seduced by crafty and clever *liars who do understand
*also known as politicians.
Job 12
The deceived and the deceiver are His.He leads counselors away plundered,
And makes fools of the judges. He loosens the bonds of kings,
And binds their waist with a belt.He leads princes away plundered,
And overthrows the mighty. He deprives the trusted ones of speech,
And takes away the discernment of the elders. He pours contempt on princes,
And disarms the mighty. He uncovers deep things out of darkness,
And brings the shadow of death to light.
He makes nations great, and destroys them;
He enlarges nations, and guides them.He takes away the understanding of the chiefs of the people of the earth,
And makes them wander in a pathless wilderness. They grope in the dark without light,
And He makes them stagger like a drunken man.
Sounds to me like Marcel is an Anti-Christian bigot. “Those American Christian puppet masters are the problem.” Puke.

As Jews we have decided to put Obama ahead of Israel
As Jews we have chosen to follow in the footsteps of our old cousin Esauv and sell out godly heritage and birthright for a mess of rank gruel and that is why we will vote for the evil one,our very own adopted Hussein Zero.
Then you are stupid, ignorant, Nazi morons.
You will be the first ones he sends to the death camps.
And make no mistake: he DOES want to send you to a death camp.
Obama is a Jew-hating nazi. Deal with it.
Then, there is this: Delegates and members of the Democratic party booed after former Gov. Ted Strickland (D-OH) discussed GOD and moved to recognize JERUSALEM as the capital of Israel.
Convention chairman Antonio Villaraigosa, mayor of Los Angeles, had to ask for the Yea and Nay vote several times before declaring the motion passed.
C-SPAN cameras captured the dissatisfaction among members after the motion passed. UNREAL!!
I just watched the Democrat delegates in a voice vote to restore G-D and Jerusalem as Israel’s capital to the party platform. The vote was clearly against but after three times the chairman announced that it passed. The cameras showed angry Arab delegates booing the decision. Any Jew or Gentile who supports Israel has no business voting for President Obama.
That needs to be splashed all over the net and it needs to go viral.
All this boils down to the vote in November. It doesn’t matter what the Democrats say or how they say it. Obama can be removed. Keep remembering that Obama was elected by only 30% of registered voters. There was a 58% turnout and of the people who actually voted, 52% voted for Obama. Multiply 0.58 and 0.52 and you get 0.30. Just 30% of registered voters saddled us with Obama. Forget about the polls and just vote. He has not gained followers. When you see a poll that shows Obama neck-and-neck with Romney and both in the 40% range, you can be sure that there is an oversampling of Democrats.
I would like to set the record straight on a variety of concerns voiced by several posters.
1- Israel does not ” worship ” the USA. However Israelis feel a kinship with America because we share certain basic values – individual freedom and human rights, respect for law and charity, freedom of worship and the sanctity of life. These are just some of the ties that bind. The roots of the American colonial experience and the values of the Founders are steeped in Jewish ethics and respect for Judaism. Many of the finest aspects of American values are straight out of the Jewish Bible. It is no accident that many early American town had biblical names.
2- The Israel-American relationship has been mutually beneficial. Israel helped win both The Cold War and the war in Iraq. It was Israel that denied Assad The Bomb just as it denied Saddam Hussein The Bomb. American funding has helped Israel grow its defense industry and defensive capabilities. American defense has reaped huge technical rewards for this investment. It is not a simple arrangement and both countries have tried to influence the other at times when interests conflicted. That is normal and in no way minimizes the benefits.
3- American Jews who support Israel overmuch are accused of dual loyalty. American Jews who seem to ignore Israel’s needs are accused of short-sightedness. What others think of you is important to everyone. What you think of yourself is even more important. And since the world at large, even the small world of PJMedia, is obsessed with us, we are constantly under the microscope. We are one of the smallest ethnic/religious groups in the world yet we occupy more time, discussion, newspaper space than groups that outnumber us a million to one. Anyone who lives under such scrutiny is bound to reveal some flaws. Jews are humans after all , though some non-Jews still claim otherwise.
4- Though some folks try to rewrite history and others try to escape from it Jews on the whole are a people that respect history and appreciate its significance. We are a people whose past and future are alive for us every day. Every day we focus on what has been learned, what has been promised, and how to appreciate the importance that learning brings to life in the moment. It is a beautiful way to live but it comes at a price.
Menachem ,I know how hard it is for you and so many faith challenged Jews who see the decadent, perverted ,amoral, collapsing superpower America as greater and more powerful than the wrongly perceived small god of small Israel.
America which is always to be obeyed above and before the Holy One of Israel as larger, greater than the Creator has become a stumbling block, the chief idol of Israel that God will remove from Israel’s midst permanently.
This is why the faith challenged quisling leaders of Israel keep running to the White House to be abused (with the collar tightened and the leash shortened) and keep calling it a ‘special relationship.’
You and the many others in denial won’t be able to keep up the delusion for much longer, Menachem
Israel disobeyed God by signing on to the US Road Map lie and this is why it all ends very bad for the Israel / US relationship.
Exodus 23
“You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”
I am not , as you put it, ” faith challenged “.
In fact simply living in Israel leaves one head and shoulders above , in the faith department, of some, perhaps like yourself, who advise from the Galut sidelines.
Remember both Iraq and Syria had their nuclear reactors taken out by Israel despite objections from the USA.
The Jews worship only The Almighty. And The Hand of The Almighty in can be seen in all of Jewish history. We just don’t talk about it- We live it.
To to live in The Jewish State is a both a miracle and a privilege. We live here at the nexus of the spiritual and material worlds. The Jewish People are the essential ingredient that turns a barren landscape into a Garden.
No nation has given more than The Jews and no nation claims its land with greater sovereign rights than The Jewish Nation claims Israel. And what Nation gives as much, pound for pound, inch for inch, as the Nation of Israel. When we are not battling for our lives we are teaching the world to farm, cleaning the worlds water, making medical advances that make ones head spin.
The World, basking in spiritual evil and ignorance, continues to hector us when any sane civilization should scream,
” Enough! We must stop killing Jews! “, remains as putrid as ever.
We know who to count on and we know who we are.
And just has The Almighty has promised, we are here to stay.
Obama’s attitude is a kind of unthinking, garden-variety anti-semitism, such as is found in many lower-class blacks of moderate intelligence. Like Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
I dont think so. He isnt Democrat former mayor of Atlanta Andrew Young, complaining about Jewish shopkeepers in the hood. He is much closer to Islam.
Marcel @ all above. Take a deep breathe, count to ten, relax or you’ll have a stroke!
I have never understood anti-semitism, even when dealing with the whiny, self congratulatory New York types, who were not that different from the whiny, self congratulatory New Yorkers of other ethnicity. (I always won the day, though not necessarily the decibel level)
That said, here in evangelical land, Jews are elder brothers and cousins leading the way unto our Lord, God, for me manifested triunally, (made up word), to whose root our branch was grafted.
May the Lord God bless Israel, American and the faithful world wide. May Marcel stop, search for the true source of his unbridled hate, put it in context and have peace, studying the word, sitting under a tree by the stream. (Psalm 1)
Sadly Israel is in the mess it is in because the faith challenged nation ignored the Holy One of Israel and trusted the U.S. which brought everything and anything but peace to Israel.
It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man.
