Ordered Liberty

I argued in Spring Fever: The Illusion of Islamic Democracy that the illusion’s signature feature is a fantasy: By holding free elections, a people is choosing freedom: joining modernity, adopting pluralism and tolerance, rejecting revolutionary violence and totalitarianism.

Today, we are yet again being inundated with tales of Palestinian woe after Hamas’s familiar barbarism has provoked an Israeli military response. It thus bears remembering that the Palestinian people chose Hamas. What ever happened to all those Democracy Project paeans to self-determination? Hamas is Palestinian self-determination. Hamas was not forced on Palestinians. Hamas did not militarily conquer Gaza. No, Hamas swept parliamentary elections freely held in the Palestinian territories in 2006 – thrashing its rival, Fatah, which is only marginally less committed to the destruction of Israel.

Hamas did not suddenly become a terrorist organization after it was elected. Hamas was elected because it was a jihadist organization. It was elected because, by its own declaration, Hamas connects Palestinians to something they find attractive: the global Islamic-supremacist movement. Palestinians widely reject Israel’s right to exist. They regard not just Gaza, Judea and Samaria but all of Israel as “occupied Palestine.” Even those Palestinians who purport to accept the “two-state solution” see it as a way-station on the march to a one-state solution in which the Jewish state eventually ceases to be. Palestinians chose Hamas precisely because Hamas was seen as more dedicated than Fatah to the achievement of that goal—not to mention, more brutally competent.

At the time of its election, Hamas was well known to be the Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestinian terrorist wing. It has been formally designated as a terrorist organization by the United States since the mid-nineties. Indeed, shortly before Palestinians endorsed Hamas at the ballot box, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted several Hamas operatives in the Holy Land Foundation case, a multi-million dollar terrorism financing conspiracy orchestrated by the Muslim Brotherhood in which several of the Brotherhood’s American affiliates—CAIR, the Islamic Society of North America, the North American Islamic Trust, among others—were proved to be complicit in the promotion of Hamas and thus designated as unindicted co-conspirators.

Is it 'racist' to not like someone who beats their wife, marries off their
9 year old daughter to an old man, and kills homosexuals
And non- believers ? That's not 'racism' that's

'Moderate Muslims' aren't Muslims. They're either
'Closet' Jihadists or they're non-believers.
You're not a Christian if you don't believe I'm Jesus
And you're not a Muslim if you don't believe in
Sharia law and Jihad. I've known more than a few
Muslims. Most are decent folk like us, just want to
Succeed in life and have a good home and family...
But the religious Faith they hold to is abhorrent,
Violent, discriminatory, and abusive at its very essence,
That is, the teachings of its 'prophet' whose word is
Inviolable and who's revered as the 'perfect' man.

It's time for the West to finally recognize that the Israeli/Arab
Conflict is only one piece of the larger puzzle: A Holy war of Jihad
Being waged by a sixth century cult dedicated to the murder and enslavement
Of all 'Infidels'. The current war in Gaza is nothing but
That. What we are witnessing in Gaza, Nigeria, Sudan, Iraq, Syria,
And now on the streets of Paris and London was
Ordered by a sixth century warrior and pedophile who
Also proclaimed that drinking camel urine and sucking the
Tongues of young boys were gifts from Allah.
A plague of Evil is upon us. It's time to fight it, not deny it.

We Americans have a major problem in that our large and growing numbers of so-called "low information voters" haven't got the wit to read columns such as this excellent one by Andrew McCarthy.

This is why we're where we are today with our growing Obama-Kerry-Holder debacle, and the smirking Hillary lurking in the background.

It may take us a generation to have our pendulum swing back again, much less hold it steady.

Hamas attacks on Israeli troops in Gaza with a rifle in one hand and a BABY in the other hand. They know that Israeli troops are loathe to fire on them under such circumstances. Video proof to follow as soon as cleared.

"The problem is not Hamas. The problem is the Palestinians."
Just as in the U.S., the problem is not Obama. The problem is the leftists (and low-information voters) that elected him. Obama will be gone one day, the leftism will remain.

I really believe that all the Hamas and Palestine Authority supporters in this country should be deported to the Middle East so they can get first hand knowledge on how these terrorist groups operate. The Gaza Strip would be a good place to put them now.

"...and the Palestinians, with their will having been broken, abandon the jihad and accept peaceful coexistence."

We all know (here) this is never going to happen. Not in a thousand years. Not until Islam is wiped off the earth (not gonna happen 'till the end times).

But Israel can do it in their small neck of their Southern woods. Egypt will go along, willingly. Many other Arab states (i.e. Jordan) will stay passive and silently cheer.

I say Israel should go full bore and damn what the U.S. or U.N. has to say.

Wipe this human trash off the face of the planet.

To socabill: You say "Wipe this human trash off the face of the planet.".

For years I've been hearing that the Hamas charter used to say "Wipe Israel off the map" - a phrase, i beleive, that was removed in 2006. You make this comment anonymously on a pro-Israeli site.
You show the extreme hate and prejudice of many pro-Israeli people against native Palestinians.

Response to 'itellu3times':

Maybe they chose Hamas, maybe they had no choice. Doesn't matter. Insofar as they are a people or a nation, they are ALL responsible.

Including those who were fooled into voting for Hamas, thinking they were going to be different than they turned out to be?(I'm not saying that any voters were actually fooled into voting for Hamas but another comment on this article suggests that some might have been.) Including those who voted against Hamas but stayed in Gaza afterwards anyway?

I have to say I'm leery of the idea that everyone in a given country is responsible for the things done by that country's leaders.

Are conservative Americans responsible for Roe v. Wade even though they have fought against it since the decision was made? After all, we could conceivably have elected more conservative leaders or parties and reversed Roe v. Wade who might in turn have chosen more conservative Supreme Court justices who might then have reversed Roe v. Wade.

Richmond. Atlanta. Dresden. Hamburg. Berlin. Tokyo. Kyoto. Hiroshima. Nagasaki. Different? Because the 'Good Guys (us)' did it?
Asked and answered. Yes a population is guilty of it's governments crimes. And so must pay the price until convinced or forced to change that government. Tis a hard cold world. But that's how it rolls.

You might have a valid point, but anyone that is even room temperature IQ would note that concerning the SCOTUS decision pertaining to Roe V. Wade, since its inception there has been a very vocal outcry against the Constitutional legitimacy, including me. VERY vocal.

Where is this loud outcry against Hamas across Gaza? Where are these moderate Muslims that I keep hearing about? Because with the exception of a very chosen few, I hear no outrage across this globe from Muslims about the death and destruction that has been done in the name of their religion.

It is the idea of having nations. It is certainly the way the US prosecuted WWII. It is therefore the responsibility of the Palestinians to remove Hamas, or otherwise stop them, if Hamas does evil. It is not Israel's responsibility or anyone else's.

Conservative Americans live with the consequences of the actions of their government and the majority. The doctrine of "tyranny of the majority" is suppose to guide when this is good government and when it is not. This was probably not followed in Roe vs Wade, but there are no bright lines for most of this, it requires judgement and errors will be made. And errors can bring consequences. Big, bad, consequences. Just see if they don't.
