Newsweek’s Rage
The editors of Newsweek magazine, pictured here:
have seen fit in their wisdom to grace the cover of their crappy and dying magazine with an unflattering picture of Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann.

Now every time I point out the dirt-lousy treatment Congresswoman Bachmann is getting in the press, I get letters telling me to stop endorsing her. I haven’t endorsed anyone. But I really do think there is another level of hatred from the left against conservative women – women, I mean, particularly. I had the distinct pleasure of being on Greg Gutfeld’s Red Eye the other day and seemed alone in thinking the Bachmann cover was gender related. Others said the left would do the same to any conservative. And it does happen. But it just seems to happen a lot more to conservative women. The congresswoman is attractive. It can’t be hard to take a semi-decent picture of her. Pranks like this are giggly and base, a sign of insecurity and dysfunction. Shame on ‘em.
I’m on the road and typing this on an iPad I got for my birthday – very cool. But please forgive typing and formatting errors. It’s not that easy to do this.

But of course! Conservative women in the public eye are rallying points for the millions of American women who put their trust in the Left, in gender-war feminism, and in the welfare state, and feel betrayed by them. Nothing is more dangerous to the Left than a trend among women, their largest and second-most-reliable cohort of supporters, away from left-liberalism and toward conservatism. Allowed to mature, such a trend would reduce the Democrats to minor-party status.
Not that that would be a bad thing, mind you.
Hillary qualifies as the Queen for Rage. Her screaming rants are very hard to take. Bachmann seems to always have a great smile, a good sense of humor and, unlike Mrs. Clinton, common sense. Newsweek has a tiny little market, it’s living on long past glory and will soon be history.
Democrats get huffy whenever someone from a group they’re “entitled” to support from instead decides to think and act for themselves.
See, e.g. Clarence Thomas.
I think the notion that liberals are pro-women is a complete lie. Liberals are pro-other liberals, and could care less about women’s welfare in general. The left’s reaction to Palin and Bachmann perfectly illustrate the left’s contempt for successful women who compete and win on their merits. I applaud Klavan for defending Bachmann against the unfare, sexist attacks from the left.
I’m a conservative woman with an expensive education who stayed home to bring up kids for over a decade. I chose a husband who could afford this arrangement, chose to put the kids as a priority over my career, lived a life of true choice, and I have no regrets. To be a liberal woman I should have chosen my career over my kids, not gotten married to begin with, pretend to be happy going against my own nature, promote the State as my spouse, and behave hysterically whenever a man whistled at me. No thank you!
Complain to your dentist and doctor to get the liberal raw out of their waiting rooms.
Have you forgotten the photo of Sarah Palin’s legs from behind — as she was making a speech during 2008 — that was widely published? Just what political purpose was that supposed to represent?
Can’t recall any photos of any males, conservative or otherwise, highlighting any particular parts of their anatomies. (Nor liberal females.)
And, then, there’s poor Hillary. Even the flattering shots are … unflattering.
It was good to see you on Red Eye … always enjoy that show, and (of course), “Klavan on the Culture” – genius stuff.
I agree with you that there is a sexist element to things like the Bachmann photo … but I really believe it’s more about how males on the Left are intimidated (and females on the Left are threatened) by the combination of “hotness” and intellect that characterizes many of the better-known female conservative politicians and pundits. (Of course, some will regard this observation itself as sexist, but as a man married for 23 years to a “hot” and intelligent conservative woman, all I can say is: I calls ‘em likes I sees ‘em.”) ;^)
As for the colorful little pamphlet that some still call “Newsweek” –> meh.
Rob
You disrespect horses.
Newsweek — crappy magazine, is right — had to go to some trouble to come up with such an unflattering photo of Michele Bachmann who, in truth, is a very attractive woman.
Of course they wanted her to look crazed: just look at those eyes! ‘Wonder how many takes it took to come up with this shot? ‘Wonder when the leftard media is going to realize that these tactics look far worse on them than on the politicians they’re targeting?
‘Maybe when they start looking at their subscription lists that are dwindling as I write.
– L.A. Times, which took a hundred of photos of me, but used the one where my tie was crooked. Another news photographer explained to me shortly thereafter that they go with the shot that’s “edgy”.
