Television star Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle) will make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), as revealed by images posted on the social media site Imgur. The star had a much-hyped cameo in the first film, Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), but is likely to play a larger role in future Marvel movies.
It seems a spoiler warning is in order, however, as the photos reveal one location in the Guardians sequel, and which character Fillion is set to play — a personality which might become important in future films.
The revealed images show movie posters on Earth, a big reveal for the Guardians sequel, as the first film took place largely on other planets. The movie posters feature Fillion, and advertise “Simon Williams Film Festival.”
Simon Williams is a fictional actor in the Marvel universe, whose superhero alter ego is Wonder Man. This hero is a former villain who rejected his criminal past to join the Avengers. He enjoys the powers of superhuman strength, speed, and durability. Most speculation agrees that Wonder Man is unlikely to be a major character in Guardians 2, but this is a fantastic Easter Egg for the Marvel cinematic universe, hinting the character’s emergence in the next Avengers film, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 (2018).
This is not Fillion’s first cameo role in a Marvel film, however. He also briefly appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy as “Monstrous Inmate.” Here’s hoping his Guardians 2 cameo is a bit more involved than that one.
