The United States military will always be a target for terrorism. Both foreign and domestic terrorists have killed our heroes at military facilities. It seems someone new may have this idea in mind again.
Fox News reports: “Multiple suspicious packages containing explosive material were sent to at least three military installations in the Washington, D.C. area, a senior defense official told Fox News Monday.”
The first of the packages were found at National Defense University on Fort McNair in Washington, D.C., around 8:30 in the morning. That was soon followed by the discovery of a package at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren in King George County, VA, around 11:00 AM. A third package was reported at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, VA.
All three were safely destroyed.
These three packages come just days after 51-year-old Hafiz Kazi died when his vehicle exploded just outside the main gate at Travis Air Force Base in California. He had explosive material with him.
So far, there’s no official word on the culprit and the intention. Yet if the three packages are related to the Travis AFB explosion, that may be welcome news as Kazi is dead and law enforcement is able to easily gather any intelligence or evidence on him.
We can understand radical Islamic terrorists at this point. But the recent bombings in Austin with the mysterious motives of a lunatic make these latest finds particularly troubling.
We don’t know quite why the Austin bomber did what he did. Heck, we still have no idea why the Las Vegas shooter did what he did.
Considering all the “Known Wolf” acts of Islamic terror, we have a clear course to follow to counter attacks motivated by that ideology. But if being the Unabomber is suddenly a fad among the country’s sociopaths, that should scare the hell out of us.
