George Conway, husband of Counselor to President Trump Kellyanne Conway, argued on Wednesday that President Donald Trump should be impeached for “using the power of the presidency” to advance his “own personal interest” through foreign policy.

“You are promising to take that awesome power that’s being thrust upon you and use it for the nation’s benefit and not for your own benefit and the problem with Donald Trump is he always sees himself first. Trump is all about Trump and that’s why it was inevitable he’d get himself into this soup once again,” Conway said during MSNBC’s coverage of the public impeachment hearing on Wednesday with acting U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor.

“He was using the power of the presidency in its most unchecked area, foreign affairs, to advance his own personal interest as opposed to the country’s,” he added.

Conway said he is “horrified” and “appalled” that Republican lawmakers do not agree with his assessment on impeachment.

“If you had told me three years ago it wouldn’t have come to this, I wouldn’t have believed it because I don’t think, you could not have imagined — I don’t think I could have imagined a president, any president, engaging in this sort of conduct,” he said.

“I don’t frankly want to be on television,” Conway added. “But I just don’t get why people can’t see this and why people are refusing to see this. It’s appalling to me.”
