WASHINGTON — Shortly after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry, President Donald Trump’s campaign sent out a fundraising message to supporters.
“Pres Trump: Nancy just called for impeachment. WITCH HUNT! I need you on my Impeachment Defense Team. ALL GIFTS 2X-MATCHED for 1 HOUR. Donate NOW,” read a text message sent out by Trump’s re-election campaign on Tuesday.
Moments after Pelosi’s announcement, Trump posted several tweets, including, “PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT” and “They never even saw the transcript of the call. A total Witch Hunt!”
Earlier in the day, the president wrote that he has “authorized the release tomorrow of the complete, fully declassified and unredacted transcript of my phone conversation with President Zelensky of Ukraine.”
