UPDATED: 2 Confirmed Dead in Southern California High School Shooting

Update: 2:59 p.m. Eastern:

So to recap: The Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department just held a press conference and confirmed that two students aged 16 and 14 have died in the hospital. The shooter is alive but gravely injured and under medical care. The shooter’s social media accounts are being investigated. The weapon used was a semi-automatic .45 caliber pistol. Thursday is the shooter’s 16th birthday.

One female victim has died in the hospital.

A suspect has been taken into custody.

A local hospital has received 2 patients in “critical condition,” 3 more en route.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that deputies responded to Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, a suburb of Los Angeles on reports of a shooting. The suspect is described as an Asian male wearing black. They have not reported anyone in custody and are advising all residents in the area to shelter in place as they search for the suspect.

The Sheriff’s Twitter account is also reporting there is fire at the scene and multiple emergency vehicles are responding. There are no confirmed reports of injuries or casualties yet.

The Sheriff’s office confirmed that there are “multiple victims.”

All the surrounding schools have been placed on lockdown as well.

Some outlets are reporting up to seven injuries but the sheriff’s office has not confirmed that.
