Got Him: Accused Cop-Killer Markeith Loyd in Police Custody

The fugitive accused of murdering his pregnant ex-girlfriend and an Orlando police officer was caught Tuesday, the Orlando Police Department announced.

Authorities had been searching for Markeith Loyd since December, when he killed his ex-girlfriend. The search intensified on Jan. 9 after he gunned down Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton in the parking lot of an Orlando Walmart. Clayton was shot as she approached Loyd, after being tipped that he was in the store. Loyd reportedly finished her off as she was lying wounded and helpless on the ground.

Via Fox News:

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Loyd, 41, was taken into custody in Orlando, but the specific location of where he was captured was not immediately known, Fox 35 reported.

Chief Mina said on Twitter that officers used fallen Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton’s handcuffs to secure Loyd.

Police say he was wearing body armor when he was arrested:

Last week, cops arrested three people accused of helping Loyd, 41, after the manhunt began, Fox 35 reported.

Loyd’s niece, Lakensha Smith-Loyd, was arrested Wednesday on an accessory charge Wednesday. Later the same day, police arrested an ex-girlfriend of Loyd’s: Jameis Slaughter, who also faces a charge of accessory, according to online jail records.

And a day earlier, Zarghee Mayan, the fugitive’s supervisor at a fried chicken restaurant, was arrested on the same charge.

A $100,000 reward was offered for information leading to Loyd’s arrest as hundreds of officers and deputies searched for him.

“They beat me up!” Loyd bellowed, his eyes swollen shut, as the cops led him into police headquarters.
