Mack Beggs, a 17-year-old transgender boy, wanted to wrestle in Texas’ men’s league, but was turned away. Beggs was told he must play in the league of the gender he was born in (i.e. the women’s league). He is taking testosterone treatments and won the tournament handily. Now, pundits and politicians on both sides of the aisle are using Beggs as an example. The Left says he was mistreated and that he belonged in the men’s league, and the Right says he cheated and is just using testosterone as a tournament leg-up. Dale Hansen, a local sportscaster, sure argued on behalf of the transgender kid though. He said that Beggs “needs our support, and he does not need a group of old men in Austin telling him who to wrestle because of a genetic mixup at birth…. He’s a child, simply looking for his place in the world and a chance to compete in the world.”
