AOC Whines About Her Subsidized Congressional Health Care Gold Plans (All 66 of Them)

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has stepped in it again, this time on Twitter, by posting a whining complaint about all the health care options she has, or something, and slamming Obamacare by accident. “Members of Congress also have to buy their plans off the exchange. They are Gold plans that are partially subsidized. That means I get to “choose” btwn 66 complex financial products. This is absurd. No person should go without healthcare, & no one should go through this, either.”

While we understand that complex things are hard for a person with AOC’s mental capacity to work through, what shouldn’t be difficult to comprehend is that most Americans get only three choices on the health care exchange, not 66. We also don’t get any subsidies. The comments are fun.

Perhaps the real story here, though, is that AOC just told us that congresspeople, who start at $175,000 per year, are getting subsidized health care plans. The rest of the Americans, if they make a combined income of $104,000, do not. This is a scandal. Obamacare, which was billed as the “Affordable Care Act,” quickly became unaffordable to anyone who didn’t get subsidies.

A report last year by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services showed a 40% drop in unsubsidized enrollment between 2016 and 2018 while subsidized enrollment rose. This is the result Republicans predicted and yet another example of punishing productive Americans by making them pay for other people’s health care at the expense of their own. My sister is the perfect example. She was forced to buy a plan through the health care exchange and she did not qualify for any subsidies. Her plan cost her $700 a month with an $11,000 deductible. After suffering through months of this, she decided no health insurance and paying out of pocket was cheaper. To afford health care after Obama got done with it, Americans have to risk losing everything in a catastrophic event just so they can afford to see a doctor when they need to. That’s the true story of Obamacare.

CNBC reported the actual numbers that members of Congress must pay for their health care plans. What you’re about to read is going to make you sick. Members of Congress get to choose one of those 66 gold-level plans and receive subsidies for 72% of the cost of the premiums. And the 28% they do have to pay comes out of pre-tax payroll deductions. But that’s not all! They can get free care through the Office of the Attending Physician and free outpatient care at military hospitals in Washington D.C., too.

This is the “terrible” health care that AOC is complaining about. While Congress was shielded from the bank account-emptying scheme that Obamacare is, anyone who has had to buy into it without help from the government knows the truth. It was designed to fail. It was designed to push us into socialized medicine.

“It was designed to make sure that employers would drop coverage because it’s too expensive, that exchanges would fail and the government would come in and take over and you’d have single-payer healthcare,” said Lindsey Graham on Mike Gallagher’s show, as reported by the Washington Examiner in 2017.

I’m grateful to AOC for giving us another opportunity to point out the inequalities between our ruling class and the citizens forced to pay for it all. I have an idea! Let’s take away the subsidies for Congress. Maybe then they’d come up with a reasonable solution for this mess.
