Democrats have made no secret of it: if they retake the House in 2026, impeachment goes back on the table. They don’t care if President Donald Trump hasn’t broken any laws; they will do it because the base wants them to. It was bad enough when they impeached him over a phone call the first time, and then over bogus allegations he “incited” a riot. But it seems like they will attempt another impeachment for reasons just as weak and pointless.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, admitted to NBC's Kristen Welker that Democrats would likely move to impeach Trump again if they retake the House in the 2026 midterms.
"Everybody on our side understands that impeachment is a critical tool in the toolbox for constitutional self-defense against a president acting like a king, an imperious, lawless, arrogant king," Raskin told Welker.
Raskin also acknowledged that the first attempt already failed spectacularly. Trump accounts for half of all presidential impeachments in American history, and the Senate still fell 10 votes short of conviction. "We were ten short, again, because of Mitch McConnell," Raskin said.
Welker pressed him on whether that meant impeachment simply wasn't worth the trouble. Raskin said it remains very much on the table. "Impeachment is not a taboo with us. It's not a fetish with us. We understand it's not a panacea," he said. "We will not hesitate to use it, if we need to use it."
So Welker asked the obvious follow-up: has Trump actually committed any impeachable offenses?
"Undoubtedly," Raskin said, and then, in a blatant attempt to avoid having to explain what he believes those impeachable offenses are, he said, "We don't even have time to remotely scratch the surface."
Surprisingly, Welker didn’t let him get away with not offering something and asked him to name just one. He didn't cite bribery, obstruction of justice, or any legitimate crime. He cited a construction project.

"I would say even just bulldozing the East Wing of the White House, if you can bulldoze the East Wing, he can bulldoze the West Wing. He believes that he is a king," Raskin said.
Yep. He claimed that's an impeachable offense.
Raskin didn't stop there. He also floated Trump's strike on Iran's nuclear program earlier this year as grounds for impeachment, since it happened without a formal declaration of war from Congress. By that standard, nearly every occupant of the Oval Office since World War II would have to be impeached.

Of course, that didn’t stop Raskin from trying to claim that Democrats have an agenda besides impeaching Trump. The only thing he actually proved is that Democrats don't need Trump to break the law; they just need the majority so they can impeach him again. In the end, that’s all they want to do.
