I think most people, especially parents, have reacted to the Lindsay Clancy case with horror. I’ve generally tried to avoid the story, though unfortunately it’s become increasingly difficult. The details of what happened are tragic and horrific enough, but the response from a particular subset of people has made it so much worse.
Of course, I’m talking about that of liberal women.
Lindsay Clancy stood trial for seven weeks, accused of strangling her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan, with exercise bands at the family's home in Duxbury, Mass., in January 2023. On Friday, a twelve-person jury of nine women and three men failed to reach a unanimous verdict after seven days of deliberations, and the judge declared a mistrial.
According to reports, it came down to one juror refusing to convict.
Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, worsened by a mix of prescription medications. Prosecutors argued she was mentally sound and had carefully planned the killings, down to sending her husband, Patrick, out to pick up dinner so she could carry them out uninterrupted.
Hundreds of women dressed in pink have turned out at the courthouse throughout the trial. I can’t understand why. Whatever you want to believe about postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis, she killed her children. She had the presence of mind to scheme to get her husband out of the house, plan for how long he would be away, and do what she did.
Yet these women keep doubling down.
Within hours of the mistrial being declared, a GoFundMe for Clancy’s family (which I'm not going to link) surged past $1.1 million, and its organizer raised the goal to $3 million. The fund benefits Clancy's parents, Michael Musgrove and Paula Musgrove. As of this writing, it had collected more than $1.17 million from nearly 35,000 donors.

Brandee Mulligan, the fund's organizer, explained the new goal in an update posted the day of the mistrial. "I've decided to raise the goal of this fundraiser since this process has been extended, so is the time Paula and Mike will remain away from their home, continuing to carry the costs that come with being there for their daughter every day," she wrote. "The original purpose of this fundraiser hasn't changed — it's simply to take one thing off their plate while they continue to show up for their family. If they have to keep showing up longer, I want to make sure the support does too."
Scroll through the non-anonymous donations and a pattern jumps out immediately: the donors are overwhelmingly women. Among the top donors, a woman named Nicole gave $5,000. Janet gave another $5,000. Luisa gave $2,500. Candice gave $2,032.
The messages attached to the money are worse than the dollar figures. "Donating a second time. Keep fighting Lindsay! We all stand with you. Sending love from Colorado," one woman wrote. "Pray for comfort and peace for the family and Lindsay we love and support you," wrote another. The support isn't just domestic. "Sending love, support and a donation to Lindsay and family from Scotland," another donor wrote.
Then there's the woman who bragged about her fifth donation. "As long as Patrick is free to stroll carefree with his new pregnant spouse while Lindsay suffers, I will," she wrote.
How exactly is the husband the villain here?
That's liberal women for you. Women by the thousands are treating a mother accused of strangling her own three children with exercise bands as if she were a feminist folk hero, whom a husband who dared to move on with his life has wronged. Real feminists spent decades fighting for equality and equal opportunity. These women have turned that legacy into a fan club for a child-killer. Cheering for Lindsay Clancy is a betrayal of everything feminism was supposed to stand for.
Liberal women did that to the cause.
