Democrats aren’t exactly known for being the most dignified people. If I were a Democrat, I’d be pretty embarrassed most of the time. Okay, all the time. They’ve really debased themselves and turned Washington into a circus most of the time.
President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address is scheduled for Feb. 24, and if you remember last year's chaotic spectacle, you’re probably expecting something even worse this year. For what it’s worth, there are some Democrats who admit their behavior wasn't exactly their finest hour.
They refused to stand for the grieving mothers of Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray, both of whom were murdered by illegal immigrants who came into this country under Joe Biden. They even sat stone-faced when Trump honored DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old brain cancer survivor who was being made an honorary member of the Secret Service. Instead of joining Republicans in applause for a child who beat cancer, they held up attack signs and turned the chamber into something resembling a toddler's temper tantrum.
But the most dramatic moment came when far-left Texas Representative Al Green was forcibly removed from the Capitol for repeatedly disrupting and screaming at Trump during the speech. The whole episode showed the American people just how infected these crazies were with Trump Derangement Syndrome.
According to a report from Axios, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries “told colleagues in a closed-door meeting Wednesday morning to either attend the speech with ‘silent defiance’ or skip it.” He was allegedly not happy with their disruptions. But sources say several House Democrats are already planning to defy his orders and turn the speech into another circus.
Sen. John Fetterman is also begging his colleagues on the left not to embarrass themselves again when President Trump delivers his 2026 State of the Union address.
Fetterman appeared on Fox News with Kayleigh McEnany to deliver what might be the Democratic Party's most honest assessment of its own conduct in recent memory. "I do plan to attend, and I hope that this year they don't put up those silly paddles and all those kinds of weird protests," he said. "You don't have to agree with whatever you're going to hear. But last year, it just made us look like children."

"Show up or not, but just do that kind of thing and have some dignity," Fetterman added. "We can agree or disagree and not call people names or behave in such ways like that."

There are some Democrats who are now considering a full boycott of Trump's State of the Union as their protest method of choice. At least that approach would spare Americans the embarrassment of watching elected officials throw tantrums while families of murder victims are honored. Fetterman made clear he plans to attend regardless of what others decide.
The real question isn't whether Democrats should protest Trump's policies — vigorous debate is healthy. The question is whether they can muster enough self-control to do it without looking like spoiled children who didn't get their way. Last year, they proved they couldn't. Frankly, I have low expectations this year as well.
