Trump Derangement Syndrome Blinds the Left to Actual Tyranny

Townhall Media

The radical left in the United States shows open contempt for America and rarely bothers to disguise it. In their worldview, the country itself stands as a symbol of moral failure. They describe America as a nation defined by slavery and oppression rather than opportunity, freedom, or progress. That obsession drives their priorities. Genuine slavery and oppression around the world don’t matter to them because of their fixation on portraying Trump as the ultimate evil society must defeat.

Which brings me to Jimmy Kimmel, of all people.

Despite tanking ratings here in America, Jimmy Kimmel spent part of his Christmas addressing the United Kingdom. About what? The supposed rise of tyranny in America.

Oh, the irony! He was speaking to a nation that arrests dozens of people daily for social media posts while peddling a completely fabricated story about his own "persecution."

Following King Charles III’s traditional Christmas address, Kimmel delivered a four-minute "Alternative Christmas Message,” which aired on Channel 4. But it was more of an anti-Trump screed than anything else. During the rant, the late-night host positioned himself as a champion of democracy and free speech, warning Brits that authoritarianism is taking root in the United States. "Tyranny is booming over here," Kimmel declared, claiming the U.S. government tried to silence him because he didn't worship the president enough.

"The American government made a threat against me and the company I work for, and all of a sudden, we were off the air," Kimmel told his British audience. PJ Media readers know this is a lie because ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! in September after Kimmel falsely claimed that Tyler Robinson, who assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was a MAGA supporter. "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them," Kimmel said on air at the time.

As PJ Media previously reported, Robinson was a radicalized leftist who lived with a transgender roommate believed to be his romantic partner. Before the killing, Robinson texted his lover: "I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out,” and his own mother told police he’d moved “more to the left, becoming more pro-gay and trans rights-oriented.”

ICYMI: Here's Why Pritzker Shouldn’t Celebrate the Supreme Court’s Ruling on the National Guard

The brief suspension of Kimmel's show had nothing to do with Trump, either. Some stations flat-out refused to broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live! in response to public backlash and concerns about losing advertisers. This was market forces at work, not jackbooted government thugs.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr even debunked the left’s narrative about the suspension. "Local TV stations said, 'I don't want to run this Kimmel stuff, and we're going to preempt it,'" Carr explained. "That's a really important moment of local TV stations standing up for their viewers and pushing back against Comcast and Disney."

So, why was Kimmel telling his fictionalized version of his suspension?

“The reason I'm telling you this story is because maybe you're thinking, ‘Oh, a government silencing its critics is something that happens in places like Russia or North Korea or LA, not the UK.’”

Except that the UK government silences its citizens. In fact, police arrest an average of more than 30 individuals daily for "offensive" online posts or private messages. Authorities there have prosecuted social media users and even private citizens for allegedly hateful or offensive comments. The UK currently enforces some of the Western world's strictest speech laws. Yet there was Kimmel, warning them about American tyranny while sitting in the belly of the beast, delivering a self-righteous rant, all while professing to be a free speech hero.

This, to me, is no different than when radical leftists claim to care about slavery and oppression, but only in the abstract sense that they still think it’s a problem in the United States, and not something that indeed still exists in other parts of the world. Imagine if they actually focused their energy on fighting actual slavery and oppression where it’s still happening in the world instead of pretending it’s some ongoing crisis here in the U.S.

That’s Trump Derangement Syndrome in a nutshell.
