Impeachment 3.0 Is Coming if Democrats Win Next Year

Democrats have spent years insisting they care about “norms” and “democracy,” yet every time President Donald Trump asserts authority they don’t like, the impeachment itch flares right back up. Even before Trump took office in 2017, Democrats were scheming to impeach him for something. Now that he’s back in office, it’s become clear they intend to impeach him again.

Rep. Al Green (D-Tex.) added fuel to the fire this week, reminding everyone how eager some Democrats are to revive their favorite pastime. Green announced he will file new articles of impeachment against President Trump—his fifth attempt, and surely not his last. Though the effort is doomed to fail, he sees it as more of a litmus test for the Democratic caucus than a serious attempt. But trust me, a serious effort is coming if Democrats regain the House majority.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) made that crystal clear during his recent interview on CNN.

During the interview, Kasie Hunt brought up the Democrats who filmed a video urging U.S. troops to reject what they called “illegal orders” from the president, and how Trump pushed back by saying there should be consequences for lawmakers who openly encourage service members to defy the chain of command.

Raskin wasted no time declaring “nothing” the president said had any merit. He portrayed the Democratic lawmakers as noble truth-tellers, and insisted that their video fell squarely within protected speech. He insisted “all of it was completely true,” and that military members must refuse unlawful orders. His tone carried the same sanctimony he brings to every hearing, and he repeated the claim that Trump’s comments somehow drifted into the realm of assassination threats.

Then he reached for the magic word that Democrats use every time they feel the winds of political opportunity: “impeachable.”

Raskin didn’t dance around it. He said Trump’s response represented “a completely impeachable offense.” He insisted, without evidence, that Trump had targeted lawmakers simply for upholding the Constitution. He even doubled down when Hunt pressed him, saying, “It’s an impeachable offense for the president to say that members of Congress can be punishable by death.”

This was the tell. Democrats love impeachment. They see it as a shortcut to nullifying an election result they don’t like. They never got over his defeat of Hillary Clinton in 2016, so they impeached him twice under flimsy pretenses. Then, after Trump returned to the White House on Jan. 20, 2025, with a clear mandate, they still cannot accept it. They can’t wait for another excuse to drag the country through yet another partisan circus.

The first time, they falsely claimed he offered a quid pro quo to Volodymyr Zelensky. The second time, they falsely claimed he incited an insurrection. The third time may be justified by the false claim that he called for the assassination of Democrat lawmakers.

Raskin kept moralizing, throwing in a swipe about Barack Obama and Joe Biden. “Imagine if Barack Obama or Joe Biden had said something like that,” he told Hunt. He insisted Biden “would never have said something like that,” a claim that is beyond hilarious when you consider how Biden weaponized the government against Trump and the rhetoric Democrats have used against him and his supporters for years, which has literally resulted in multiple assassination attempts.

Make no mistake: Raskin made it clear what’s coming if Republicans fail to hold the House in 2026. If Democrats retake the House, they will impeach Trump again. Raskin practically begged for the opportunity on national television.

Republicans have a simple mission in the next election cycle: Hold the majority. Democrats are desperate to appease their radical base, and they well weaponize impeachment against Trump again, because that’s what is expected of them. But the country deserves stability. The voters made their choice. Democrats refuse to accept it. Raskin showed the playbook. Voters need to stop them from running it.
