The Radical Left Broke the Judiciary

When a man traveled across the country with the intent to assassinate Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, most Americans expected a heavy sentence. After all, an attack on a Supreme Court Justice isn’t just an assault on one person—it’s an assault on the entire judicial system.

Yet Federal District Judge Deborah Boardman—a Biden appointee—handed down just eight years behind bars, despite the Department of Justice recommending a 30-year sentence. Her reasoning, delivered in a rambling courtroom soliloquy, defied belief. After pleading guilty last April, Kavanaugh’s would-be assassin, Nicholas John Roske, suddenly decided to “identify” as a woman and now goes by “Sophie”—and Judge Boardman practically swooned. She repeatedly used female pronouns, lavished sympathy on Roske’s “journey,” and even said, “I am heartened that this terrible infraction has helped the Roske family… accept their daughter [sic] for who she [sic] is.” Yes, you read that correctly—the judge was heartened by an assassination attempt because it supposedly brought a family closer together.

The message to radical left-wing criminals is clear: you have an ally who will protect you. If you commit a crime and claim to be transgender, you’ll get a reduced sentence.

Attorney General Pam Bondi called the decision “ridiculously lenient,” and promised to appeal the sentence, describing the attempted assassination as a “disgusting attack against our entire judicial system” by a “profoundly disturbed individual.”

But the leniency isn’t just about one bad call—it’s part of a pattern. Biden- and Obama-appointed judges have shown an unsettling willingness to bend or ignore the law, especially when doing so helps slow down or frustrate conservative policies. Some have outright defied Supreme Court rulings, issuing nationwide injunctions that halt federal actions they personally dislike. The numbers tell the story: in just the first four months of 2025, more nationwide injunctions were issued than in the entire twentieth century. That’s not normal judicial oversight; that’s political sabotage dressed in a robe. Even more telling, 35 of those 40 injunctions came from only five judicial districts—proof that left-wing activists and state attorneys general are deliberately shopping for friendly courts to get the outcomes they want.

Judge Boardman’s record makes this all the more indefensible. According to social media sleuths who have looked up her record of criminal sentencing, she’s handed down harsher sentences for cases such as wire fraud, crimes that didn’t come close to threatening the life of a Supreme Court Justice.

Ideologues who treat the law as a political weapon have infiltrated the judiciary, once the last bastion of nonpartisan integrity. We’ve seen it time and time again. Career criminals released onto the streets free to commit more crimes. Biased judges stacking the deck against Trump. Yet if you even dare try to prosecute a Democrat who breaks the law, Democrats and the media call it “weaponization” of justice. The double standard is glaring. Unfortunately, there’s no real mechanism to hold these rogue judges accountable. Impeachment is a fantasy—it almost never happens—and few judges will voluntarily recuse themselves when politics are at stake. The Supreme Court, for its part, seems unwilling to confront this judicial insurrection head on. Sadly, that means the deck remains stacked in favor of criminals.

When politically motivated violence goes unpunished—or worse, rewarded with leniency—more will follow. The public’s trust in the courts will erode further, and respect for the rule of law will collapse. The radical left wanted to reshape the judiciary. They’ve done far more: they’ve shattered it. What we’re witnessing now is a complete abandonment of constitutional principles in favor of social justice activism and left-wing extremism. Leftist judges like Boardman no longer see their duty as upholding the law, but as advancing an ideological crusade. They twist the Constitution into a political manifesto, substituting reason for emotion and impartiality for activism. The result is a judicial system that no longer protects the innocent or punishes the guilty—it simply enforces the left’s worldview, one ruling at a time.
