BOOK UPDATE: I am still reading parts of Built from Broken: A Science-Based Guide to Healing Painful Joints, Preventing Injuries, and Rebuilding Your Body and trying to take the advice. The book said if injured to try taking a walk everyday so I have done a daily walk for three days. I cut out the yoga and barre classes this week and went to a manual myofascial release session and focused on a few exercises from the book and am about 90 percent better. Most of my problems are repetitive use injuries from working out and sitting too much. My next step is to get my posture evaluated as the book suggests and hopefully, this will help with the other 10%. (Bumped)

BOOK REVIEW: I got my book Built from Broken: A Science-Based Guide to Healing Painful Joints, Preventing Injuries, and Rebuilding Your Body in the mail yesterday and read part of it last night. I must say, for the price, it is a large book full of information and clear pictures of exercises that make them fairly easy to replicate. The book came at a good time as I did three yoga classes last week (what was I thinking?) and pulled my back muscles out. For the last two days, I have been limping around and trying to figure out how to get better. The book goes through reasons that you pull muscles and takes a different twist on how to fix them. It gives specific exercises for problem areas and helped me re-think how I was doing some of my stretching. For example, I was using a foam roller between my shoulder blades and the book said to strengthen your lats, roll your forearms going forward on the foam roller instead. I tried it and it really helped. I definitely think the book is helpful and would recommend it if you want some new and perhaps better ideas about how to relieve pain and fine-tune the workouts you already do.

If you ordered or have read the book, let us know what you think. (Bumped)

ALSO BY ALBERT ELLIS : How To Control Your Anxiety Before It Controls You. This book is also good if you or someone you know suffers from anxiety. Ellis uses rational emotive techniques that use an “action-oriented approach to managing cognitive, emotional, and behavioral disturbances.” I attended a lecture and workshop at the Albert Ellis institute a few years ago and it was excellent. Interestingly, one of the lecturers leaned over and whispered to me “Didn’t I see you on Fox News?” He seemed impressed. Though I got a good laugh that he felt he couldn’t say it out loud. (Bumped)
