I’m kind of surprised that Michael Radford’s adaptation of 1984 didn’t make the list, if only for its vividly illustrating Orwell’s creation of Newspeak, ubiquitous two-way telescreens, “2+2=5,” phrases such as “Oceania has never been at war with Eastasia,” and the chocolate ration being “raised” from 3o to 20 grams a week.
