AND THE ANSWER IS NONE. NONE MORE WOKE: “This Thanksgiving, It’s Time to Take On Your Conservative Relatives. Contrary to popular opinion, the holidays are not a time to ‘navigate’ your uncle’s bigoted MAGA jokes. They’re the time to confront him.” As Rod Dreher responded yesterday to above headline by the Nation’s Elie Mystal:

Wow. Somewhere in America, there are some Mystal family members who are pouring themselves extra wine to fortify themselves in the face of their yappy, rude, woke kinsman. Here’s part of what the Progressive Grinch Who Ruined Thanksgiving had to say:

We stand on the precipice of losing our American character to the forces of authoritarianism and bigotry. For many people, this holiday season will be the last face-to-face encounter with family members before the most consequential election of our lifetimes. And yet, many people are desperate to pass the potatoes without starting any uncomfortable conversations.

The holidays are when your resistance is needed. Some of you have the opportunity to talk to Trump voters and assorted conservatives this weekend. Some of you will have the opportunity to talk to people who live in an echo chamber of Fox News commentary and Russian troll farms. To waste that opportunity because of your own hang-ups and Mommy or Daddy issues is criminal.

Criminal! I guarantee you that anybody who took Mystal’s advice only confirmed their Trumpist or Trump-leaning relatives in their decision to back Orange Man.

And if confronting grandpa doesn’t work, you can use him as a prop to, as the kids say these days, “own the cons on Twitter,” as Daily Show producer Brandon Stefanowitz did yesterday:

This is an interesting balancing act for Stefanowitz. He believes in the apocalyptic vision of Greta Thunberg’s handlers enough to humiliate his grandfather on the Internet, but not enough to quit the massive combined carbon footprint of Viacom, Twitter, and Apple, or whatever he used to photograph grandpa and upload it to the Internet. It’s both a nice in-kind contribution to the Trump 2020 campaign, and a reminder that Grandpa Stefanowitz isn’t the hypocrite in his grandson’s personal psychodrama.

Or as Glenn writes today at Jewish World Review, “All the Democrats had to do was not be crazy, and they couldn’t even do that. They started out after the last election demanding that Donald Trump not be ‘normalized’ as president — and then proceeded to act as abnormally as possible. Weirdly, this strategy seems to be backfiring.”

UPDATE: After a massive ratio on the above tweet, Stefanowitz has protected his account.
