After multiple celebrities who I am told are stars stepped out of performing at the Great American State Fair festival in D.C. for the 250th anniversary of America’s existence, lefty Bill Maher exclaimed in frustration that it made Democrats look as if they hated President Donald Trump more than they loved the country. For some reason, it took him this long to get an inkling of the truth.
Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, The Commodores, Morris Day, C+C Music Factory and Young MC are among the celebrities who pulled out of the America250 event, according to the New York Post. Bill Maher, speaking on HBO’s Real Time, seemed astonished to discover that his fellow leftists hate Trump a great deal more than they love the United States. “This is a question about what looks best for the Democrats, because I don’t think that looks good,” Maher said. “It looks like you are just what people say about you, you don’t really love America. It looks [like] you think Trump is more important than the country itself.”
Maher is disgruntled that Donald Trump will now be one of the main attractions, so to speak, of the evening. “Now it’s just a big MAGA rally, this whole thing,” he said. “Now it’s Trump and Lee Greenwood. Wouldn’t it have been better to play this gig? Can’t we all just celebrate America itself and leave Trump out of it?”
Of course not. Democrats don’t really love America; they love the idea of what they think they can do to America when they happen to be in power. From its very creation as a party, the Democrat Party has always been inherently anti-American. That is, it has always founded its primary platform on one or more policies fundamentally opposed to the ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence, attacking the rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness—whether through slavery, race-based legal systems, election interference, abortion, wealth redistribution, illegal immigration, or political violence.

Furthermore, from the first Democrat president, Andrew Jackson, onward, Democrats have always believed they are justified in trampling the Constitution when it suits their goals. They are, and always have been, elitist, racist, treacherous, divisive, and violent. Of course, not all Democrats have been all those things, nor are all Democrats like that today. There are always those who are fooled by clever Democrat rhetoric into believing they are compassionate, progressive, or opposed to tyranny if they vote Democrat, from the Civil War to the “No Kings” protesters. Some of my own ancestors voted Democrat, mistakenly thinking they were best helping ordinary workers. But the leaders of the Democratic Party have always had the same unpatriotic, poisonous baseline tendencies and favorite political weapons.
I have previously compared the remarks of Confederates and pre-Civil War Democrats about slavery to the comments of modern Democrats on illegal immigration and cheap foreign labor, finding that the comments all aligned very closely. It is one topic out of many where we find that while Democrats sometimes change which racial or economic or political group they hate most, their arguments for hating their opponents always remain much the same. Maher shouldn’t be the least surprised by Democrats’ lack of patriotism.
