Of course, there aren't any viruses or malware for iOS. Nobody uses that platform.

That argument is still valid.. right? .. right?

Has anyone ever made that argument with the i series? There are no Trojans on Apple mobile because nothing gets downloaded that isn't pre-approved by Apple. A bit of a mixed bag, if you ask me.

That was (and is, for the thin-skulled) the argument for why OS X has no remote exploits of note. Applying it to iOS is to make the same point: It's not the software, it's the security model of the underlying OS, which in a word: works.

It's a mixed bag until your Android phone gets hijacked and ransomed, and then you remember that there's not one dang thing Android does that iOS apps don't do better.

Says the guy who's never owned an Android phone, eh?

Wanking it is great if you're a virgin.

Except, of course, play nice with anything non-Apple.

Love to hear what these "non-Apple" things are that iOS apparently can't play with.

Malware? Okay, there's that.

iOS can't handle anything that is not spoon fed. It's a consuming device, period. A really nifty television. Some people are fine with that, some people aren't.

Just to be clear, I'm not "on the other side" of the Apple divide. I have PC products and I have Apple products. If you think Apple is better in every way and this is an issue reasonable people can't disagree on...well...I disagree.

I guess I'm hallucinating when I use iOS to:

- Remotely manage UNIX and Doze servers.
- Communicate securely with employees.
- Manage a ~100 node IP camera security system.
- Analyze and diagnose network issues.
- Take credit card payments for my business with software that doesn't come with the expectation of theft.
- Align 2-way satellite links.
- Tune multi-million dollar performance audio systems.
- Have access to real time aeronautical charts while flying.
- Talk to a BLE light and HVAC system I built from scratch.
... and the several dozen other things I do every day that make the devices and OS a massive productivity aid, all without concern for malware or UX issues that would make Bill Gates blush.

Spoon fed? Right.

Apple critiques tend towards the silly -- and this one might be the silliest yet.

"Can't handle anything no spoon fed?" "A consuming device?"

Show me one -- just one -- desktop-quality app with abilities and polish for Android on par with iMovie, iPhoto, or MS Office. Then show them to me for an Android tablet. You might squeak by on the first challenge (with the accent on "might"), but those kinds of apps don't exist for Android tablets.

Apps make the ecosystem, and Android is still sucking hind teat.

Yeah, I'm going to do banking from my phone.

Right after I get my Social Security number, date of birth and my mothers maiden name tattooed on my forehead....

Sure, I live in a walled garden. But there are no Triffids in it. And I know how to open the gate if I really want to.
