Interesting. Reminds me of an (now) old NY Times Magazine column The Ethicist. The author Richard(?) Cohen responded to a reader’s question about, IIRC, how much he should give to charity. Cohen’s response was to not give to private charity. Because by doing so you are letting government off the hook for what it is supposed to do.
The Left needs you to be dependent on government for your life. 1960s era hippies who wanted to “go back to nature” and “live off the land” and don’t want “to be hassled by The Man” are conservatives now.
