I literally cried when he did a piece on the faded Declaration of Independence…
I had one of those cheesy yellow wrinkled tourist copies as a kid too, and I was always intrigued by that near perfect circle in the flourish had beneath John Hancock’s signature. I used to try doing that, signing my name on my homework in grade school with a flourish, circa 1974.
I’d been to Washington several times as a kid, and I REMEMBER seeing at the Archives.
It was THERE…. I KNOW I saw it, I REMEMBER seeing it…that cool little circle with the two lines through it….as vivid and valid and “revisitable” as any other Iconic Revolutionary Treasures my dad made sure we saw as kids.
I remember the symmetry of Hancock’s flourish with the same clarity of Independence Hall, the rivets in the Liberty bells crack, and that funky room/ wall clock at Jeffersons Monticello…the one that tells the days of the week, but the room is too short, so part of it goes through the floor….Things you LOOK for when you return, like the familiar lines of an old friends face, their smile that’s says they remember you too, and nothing but time has changed between you.
When Bill did the fade from “tourist copy” to what it looks like today, it was a punch in the gut….
Pure Panic, and absolute heartbreak…Its all but gone, and it happened in MY lifetime?
That cant be…It was THERE, I saw it… but now my son never will?
I’M the last one in my family to have seen it?
For MY son, it will be just a STORY?
Please God, tell me that’s not true.
Bill has an amazing ability to connect with that Patriot Soul, the one where love of country surpasses love of LIFE.
And re-enforce the hope that no matter how corrupt and evil any regime can become, we are better than them, richer than them, even if we die in poverty on some god-forsaken frozen plain, frost bitten and hungry, denying their reality with resistance untill our last breath
We are AMERICANS, and that alone is Holy.
We’ve been baptized in the faith of freedom, it is in our soul, and nothing they can do will change that fact.
Even if they kill us.
Maybe not “President” Bill Whittle.
But definitely “Bill Whittle, Spiritual Advisor to The Republic”
I love the captive animal metaphor. It is so apt. It is so utterly clear that a kept people are a captive people. I hereby volunteer to have this man’s babies.
If only — [sigh]
Bill Whittle is absolutely awesome…

Bill Whittle is pretty great.
I just wish he’d write things again rather than only doing videos.
Because videos can’t be excerpted.
Can’t be searched.
Can’t just be read and linked to, and digested even if one can’t play noises.
Video is almost the worst possible medium for serious communication, though I suppose it’s great for propagandizing.

Will the transcript suffice?

Bill Whittle is My President
If only.
