Here’s something you don’t see every day in politics — a new excuse:
Democratic North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue, the first woman elected governor in the state, said Thursday she would not seek re-election this year because she believes a bid would make it more difficult to fund education.
Nu-huh.
UPDATE: Perdue’s announcement makes me feel more comfortable about coloring North Carolina red already, going into the fall campaign. I was having second thoughts about NC (while feeling more confident about Virginia). But it looks like Perdue isn’t expecting any down-ticket love in November.
More difficult to fund education because the next Republican president will be more generous with the next Republican governor? I’m afraid I don’t understand the excuse. Whose education are we talking about?

So she’s saying that if she runs, it will be more difficult to do her job? Wha? Might as well dump the spin: “I’d probably fail next time, so I’m not going to do hard work and instead get some cushier job.”

Maybe she means HER education… she’s going to school to find out what a non-sequitur is.
As a resident of North Carolina, I was so looking forward to voting against her again.
I second that, David. Dems are scrambling now. Faison and Dalton seem to be the clear options, but who knows. Brad Miller (the screaming liberal occupy lover) declared a few days ago that he was not seeking to run for his congressional seat. Maybe he’ll throw down too. If he does, I welcome it and the hours I will spend volunteering for his opposition (likely McRory).
Miller is another one I’m not sorry to leave. I’ve been in his self-drawn district.
5 minutes after posting I read Walter Dalton’s announced he will seek the Governorship. He’s going to lose.
