What We Have Here is Failure to Communicate
Bill Clinton blamed the GOP Revolution of ’94 on two things. First, on his failure to get ClintonCare passed — which is exactly bass-ackwards. Voters gave Newt Gingrich the Speaker’s gavel to prevent any further such monkeying. And if you don’t believe me, I give you as Exhibit A the events of last year. But Clinton also blamed his gun control successes — and on that one, he was right on the money. The South and West went nuts over that law, and slaughtered the Democrats for it.
But — never one to pass up an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others — President Obama is set to unleash renewed gun control efforts. From Newsweek:
Tuesday night after the speech, Obama adviser David Plouffe said to NBC News that the president would not let the moment after the Arizona shootings pass without pushing for some change in the law, to prevent another similar incident. “It’s a very important issue, and one I know there’s going to be debate about on the Hill.”
The White House said that to avoid being accused of capitalizing on the Arizona shootings for political gain, Obama will address the gun issue in a separate speech, likely early next month. He’s also expected to use Arizona as a starting point, but make the case that America’s gun laws have been too loose for much longer than just the past few weeks.
If this is supposed to be an example of Obama’s new centrist agenda — forget it. He’s an ideologue, through and through.
ALTERNATE CLOSE : If this is supposed to be an example of Obama’s new pivot to the unemployment situation, he still doesn’t get it.

Governor Barbie (AKA former Gov. Granholm of MI) backed off on opposing Michigans carry permit law back when she was first campaigning for governor. If Barry were smart he would have copied that approach instead of the “Green Jobs” BS she’s still clinging to.
Please give the gun law BS a rest people. When the debate over Fla conceal carry law was underway, the loons said there will be dead people from gunfights over parking spots, fender bender massacres and road rage. And what happened instead, violent crime went down as criminals don’t know who has a gun… they might be criminals but they ain’t stoopid.. unlike the DimLib gun nuts.
Absolutely! Obama should make gun control the centerpiece of his 2012 reelection campaign. Just give me a heads-up so I can load up on OLN and few others.
The man’s about as astute as a deflated basketball.
Gun laws are too loose to a lib elite as long as anyone other than their own bodyguards can buy them legally.
Let Obama do this and he may manage to lose the election after all.
No small coincidence that a proliferation of fire arms is directly correlated to a proliferation of government.
O’Sputnik would be insane to push this since it surely can’t pass. This is just more pablum for his base to give them something to beat their chests about. As long as he’s not giving speeches about gun control it’s safe for the other Manic Progressives to divert attention from the lack of progress on other things like jobs.
ALTERNATE CLOSE II : If this is supposed to be an example of his centrist opinion of the Constitution – forget it. He still hates it.
They’re right, you know. We need a sane gun control law, like:
“It shall be a felony to shoot a member of the United States House of Representatives.”
There. Clean and to the point.
If you guys need any more sane gun laws for particular circumstances, just let me know.
So – let me get this straight – a mentally disturbed man who breaks a number of laws, but just happens to obtain the gun *legally* then commits murder – which if I recall – is illegal. So this is grounds to make it harder for law-abiding citizens to obtain guns. Does anyone really think it’s going to stop *criminals* from getting guns? I mean, they are *criminals* after all. How is criminalizing guns going to help?
