Be Careful What You Stump For

Appearing on Al Sharpton’s radio show, President Obama warned that “my name may not be on the ballot, but our agenda for moving forward is on the ballot, and I need everybody to turn out.”

First of all, taking time out for Sharpton a week before the election is a sign of desperation. Sharpton’s the guy you go to, to get you through the primary. Then, during the general election, he becomes “Al Who?”

Secondly, with approval ratings approaching nearly Bushian lows, telling people the agenda is on the ballot is more likely to enliven the opposition, not the base.

On the other hand: What other card does Obama have left to play?

Anyone?
