The Pol That Refreshes
Honesty in politics? It’s happening right here in Colorado, as the Establishment GOP is trying its best to cope with the new crop of citizen-candidates. Read it and smile:
Republican Tom Janich of Brighton, running to unseat Democratic Rep. Judy Solano, has been arrested five times, including once for resisting arrest.
“It’s my record. I’ve got to own up to it,” he said.
But the 48-year-old said his run-ins with the law happened when he was younger, and he now has a record of public service.
“Heck, if everyone in Adams County who ever drank one too many or smoked a joint would vote for me, I’d win in a landslide,” Janich said.
Would I vote for Janich? No. Not until after I’d bought him a drink.

I love this whole list. Warts and all. The tax/economic issues might even be a benefit with voters this year. Although the “I’m an unrepentant Communist professional protester” and “I shot at my ex-wife” might not go over so well.
The last two generations or so we’ve shifted from the citizen legislature to the career politician and look where it’s gotten us. Do we really want representatives who have been planning to be president since grade school? Do we really want people who did not have misspent youths, who didn’t make mistakes and learn a few things from the school of hard knocks?
