The AP headline reads:
Cheney Fields Tough Questions From Troops
Here are both of the “tough questions” from the story:
“From our perspective, we don’t see much as far as gains,” said Marine Cpl. Bradley Warren, the first to question Cheney in a round-table discussion with about 30 military members. “We’re looking at small-picture stuff, not many gains. I was wondering what it looks like from the big side of the mountain

I thought this line was rather odd.
“Shouts of “hooah!” from the audience interrupted Cheney a few times, but mostly the service members listened intently. When he delivered the applause line, “We’re in this fight to win. These colors don’t run,” the only sound was a lone whistle.”
Well…Dick “Other Priorities” Cheney rattling off a tee-shirt sentiment in front of the people who are actually doing the fighting doesn’t merit much more than a “lone whistle,” IMO.
That said: as usual, anything Standard Media Inc. can do to make the minions of King Bush look uncomfortable or stupid will be done, whether it makes sense or not.
What irritates me about that habit is that it reveals how stupid journalists think we are.
It’s akin to the arrogance of academe…
Before I went to war I thought most reporters were just a bunch of hacks pursuing an angle, now I uterly and completely hate them. Yes, I used hate on purpose.
I’d hate to see what they consider the candy-assed nancy-boi questions
If you can’t have double standards, why have standards at all?
Hmmm- this is a pretty flimsy example of media elitist bias, Stephen…Given President Bush’s propensity to avoid any public speaking engagement in front of a potentially critical audience, I’d say that the MSM’s low standards say
more about the nature of Bush’s public appearances up till now than about some supposed snobbery toward the troops.
Matt,
What does one thing have to do with the other? Isn’t it possible for the media to be elitist AND for Bush to be Media shy? Considering the general treatment he recieves in from the media “at large” it’s amazing he interacts with them at all.
Oh and name one President who didn’t have a loathing (or at least disdain) for the media by his second term.
Cart meet Horse and all that…

akshully I think it’s rather telling that a ‘mere’ corporal would give any thought to ‘big picture stuff’ Probably doing a better job of it than most mere “journalists”*

Matt,
Um, you did notice the story was about the VP – Cheney, not President Bush, right?
