Summer Fun
July 23rd, 2003 - 10:18 am
If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take the top down on the car, drive too fast on the highway going nowhere in particular for a bit, blaring Patti Smith’s cover of “Gloria” just as loud as I can handle it.
That‘s what summer is about.

Bro, I may just have to join you in the other sebring. Pair of convertibles, side by side. What a day for it!
Ya bums.
Well, at least I can turn up the new XM, and stick my head out the window.
Listened to some Chopin on the way to work this am.

You being a Dan Man will understand that my favorite all-time summer-afternoon-cruise music is “Countdown to Ecstasy.”
And although it begins with the sacreligious phrase, “Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine,” it’s still one of my favorites. I personally attribute about 5% of my hearing loss to a 1978 Patti Smith show at the Aragon Brawlroom in Chicago during that Easter tour.
My practice was to spllit the difference. Chopin till I got to where the neighbors could hear me, and then either Patti Smith or the Kentucky Headhunters’ cover of Davey Crockett
I’m a Dancing Barefoot chick, myself.
