Vox is a clownish website. Nancy Pelosi is a clownish leftist.

So it’s no shock that they would agree on the real, root cause of the IRS scandal.

It’s not, as you and I and most sentient beings believe, a case of weaponizing government against dissent.

It’s just a budget/technology issue.

Here’s Madame Former Speaker from today’s press briefing.

Pelosi’s words: ““What it convinces me [of] is that they need a new technology system at the IRS. They need to upgrade their technology, get it right, so that there’s no suspicion about what agenda anyone may have on that.”

Rep. Pelosi was first elected to Congress in 1987. That means she was there when the IRS inked a massive contract with Computer Sciences Corp in 1998. That 15-year contract, worth $3 billion back in 1998 and $5 to $10 billion over its lifetime (estimated) was for upgrading and modernizing the IRS’ computer and record-keeping system. 1998 plus 15 years gets us to…2013.

So the IRS just finished modernizing its record-keeping regime.

Congress holds the government’s pursestrings. So sure Pelosi knows all about that contract.

Here is Pelosi' vote on 25 June 1998 to spend billions of tax payer dollars to 'reform' the IRS on HR 2676. http://tinyurl.com/nogzslg And here is the news release for CSC getting the contract on 10 Dec 1998. http://tinyurl.com/nzvoc6x
So Nancy and the IRS spend over 10 billion tax dollars and 15 years to 'upgrade' and 'reform' an IRS system and Pelosi now says key investigatory emails are missing because "they need a new technology system at the IRS."

They do primarily use UNISYS *mainframes* at the IRS to do their production jobs... They also use tape and they should have backups of their exchange servers.

and its not money that prevents them from upgrading. Its fear. Its like the FAA. They're afraid they'd never be able to get their apps running under another environment.

Bryan,
The contractual angle is the right way to get to the bottom of this. There are extensive documentation trails, and these documents must be signed/validiated by specific government personnel, as well as contractor personnel. I will contact you with some general information on contracting procedures.

What it convinces me of is that you need a new brain. You need to upgrade your mentality, get it right, so that there's no suspicion about what agenda you may have on that.

Obama settled the issue back during the O'Reilly Superbowl interview. There's not a smidgen of corruption.

So be quiet and accept the facts.
