Awareness of “rape culture” has recently caught fire, and once more energized and concerned college students are leading the discussion.  “Rape culture” and its enablers are nothing new.  A generation ago, high0profile cases were downplayed, ignored, or elided.  A powerful CEO.  The scion of a wealthy family.  These men, and others like them, were protected by the press and by other women, who came to the defense of the abusers, mostly by attacking the abused.

The corporate CEO is better known as Bill Clinton.  His first presidential campaign staff knew about the “bimbo problem,” and Hillary Clinton referred to one of them, Gennifer Flowers, as “trailer trash.”  When the story of Monica Lewinsky came to light, Ms. Clinton angrily denounced the story as part of a “vast right-wing conspiracy” to make him look bad  (note that Bill Clinton did have to give up his law license for lying under oath about the affair, something that suggests Hillary was very wrong to tar the investigation as a “conspiracy”).  As noted by Slate writers Melinda Henneberger and Dahlia Lithwick“(Clinton) consistently relates to and protects and stands with the oppressors in the gender wars, not the victims.”  The list of women importuned by Bill Clinton is long:  the list of women dismissed and denigrated by Hillary Clinton is just as long.

But Hillary wasn’t alone in defending Bill Clinton. Gloria Steinem, the Dowager Queen of the feminist movement, stood up for this serial abuser/exploiter of women, saying that “feminists will still have been right to resist pressure by the right wing and the media to call for his resignation or impeachment.”

Others in the feminist movement also knew which side of the bread held their butter.  One, Nina Burleigh, said, “I’d be happy to give him [oral sex] just to thank him for keeping abortion legal.” Yep, that’s right: give the abuser more of what he wants so he’ll be nice to you. Is that how feminists believe young women should respond to a known serial sexual predator — by rewarding him?

And that scion of a wealthy family?  That would be Ted Kennedy, who left a 19-year-old woman to drown in his car while he went to a hotel, took a shower, slept, and then talked to some lawyers before reporting the accident nearly ten hours later.  Yet, he was considered a “Lion of the Senate,” while at the same time it was well-known in Washington and journalistic circles that he was an unruly drunk who regularly groped waitress when he wasn’t throwing them across tables.  Somehow, his drunkenness and wretched treatment of women were never the subjects of, say, a 60 Minutes profile or a ten-part front-page story in the New York Times (unlike the breathless coverage given to a teen-aged Mitt Romney allegedly giving an unwanted haircut to a classmate).

Clinton's seductions follow this format: He places himself between the woman and the exit and hauls out his junk. Smooth.

I've always referred to Kennedy as "The Sea Lion of Chappaquiddick".

When it comes to Woody Allen, Roman Polansky, Bill Clinton or any Kennedy...the highly principled NOW, somehow vaporizes into LATER.

Principles of convenience are no principles at all.

And what is NAMBLA?

Having sex with children didn't need Boko Haram in that instance.

I don't look to hypocrites for moral or ethical guidance. And I really don't look for honesty or principle from them. They suck as human beings. And they should be told such to their faces.

"Rape culture" is as old as humanity. It exists in the minds of men who think women are theirs for the taking, and it cuts across political ideology, race and economic class. It will never go away because evil is timeless, but we can teach women to protect themselves.

You're missing the point...they're DEMOCRATS! Don't you pay attention?!?! Democrats can't be racist, sexist or homophobic. It's in the definition. For example, from the MSM Dictionary, Obama Age Ed.

Racist [rey-sist] 1. (n) a person, who while not employed in elective office as a member of the Democrat Party, or as one of the most potent political or social allies of said party, believes or professes a belief in racism, the doctrine that a certain human race is superior to any or all others. 2. (a) of or like racists or racism: racist policies; racist attitudes professed by individuals who are not members of or allied with the Democrat Party, particularly at the national level.

The biggest problem with this column is that There. Is. No. Rape. Culture! The entire idea is a feminist meme, no different (and no more real) than the ideas that all men are stupid, lazy, bigoted, etc., as portrayals in modern media would suggest. The proper response to "America is a rape culture," and garbage like "check your privilege" is "stop your lying, stop the slander."

Simple question to be asked at every Hillary 2016 campaign stop, if anyone has the guts: "Mrs. Clinton, do you believe that if you were elected, that you could leave Bill alone in the White House with a female intern?"

I also want to see a reporter on the 2016 campaign trail smart enough to ask, Mrs. Clinton, how many abortions of Bill's babies have there been?

Even to chide a rapist-enabling Democrat party, it's not right to go along with the pretense that there is such a thing as "rape culture." There isn't. That two words can be strung together to form a compound noun does not mean that the noun names anything existent. It doesn't. There is no "rape culture," and you shouldn't play along with the idea just to get a dig in.

So we are willing to forgive men for abusing women if they are dems, and in power. Aint that just grand.

Excellent article. It is about time that someone held Bill Clinton accountable for his actions.

If you want to dismantle the rape culture at American universities, then allow concealed carry on campus. Two slugs in a rapist goes a long way to dampening that behavior in others.

Excuse me, this article is a whitewash. Google up 'Clinton' and 'Rape' and you will see several instances (beginning when he was a student at Oxford) when he was credibly accused of actual rape.

he was credibly accused of rape by Juanita Broderick and Hillary was at the front to "urge" her not to make waves.

Someone should have told Hillary what difference does it make if her husband is a serial misogynist, he is in favor of abortion, and N.O.W and others I think were ready to get their lewinsky knee pads. to protect and service him.

Yes, but if you do some research, you will see that Juanita Broaddrick was one of several.

Rule number one:
No important Democrat will be held accountable for the victimization of women.

Rule number two:
The exception is they might be held accountable if unmasked by a successful court case brought by the victim or if they are caught red handed in criminal activity or public sex acts.

Rule number three:
Rule two only applies on rare occasions and never if the Democrat is wealthy or raises a lot of campaign cash.
