Former ambassador John Bolton appeared on Blaze Radio and KSEV, Houston with Chris Salcedo earlier this week. Salcedo asked the former ambassador to comment on Secretary of State John Kerry’s “apartheid” comment regarding Israel.
“What Kerry said was completely outrageous, defamatory,” Bolton said. “It explains why our diplomacy in the Middle East is so wretched.”
A few minutes later in the interview, Salcedo turned the focus to Ukraine. The State Department has engaged in “hashtag diplomacy,” waging a war of tweets against Putin’s Russia. That culminated when spokeswoman Jen Psaki tweeted this, on April 24.
The world stands #UnitedforUkraine. Let’s hope that the #Kremlin & @mfa_russia will live by the promise of hashtag
— Jen Psaki (@statedeptspox) April 24, 2014
Russia has amassed thousands of troops on Ukraine’s border and has infiltrated Ukraine’s territory with special operators who are believed to be behind the pro-Russian violence in east Ukraine. Psaki’s tweets appear not to be changing any facts on the ground. Salcedo asked Bolton to comment on Psaki’s Twitter diplomacy.
“Look, I love children. I just don’t think they should be in charge of foreign policy,” Bolton sharply replied. “This is not only not serious, I think the reaction in the Kremlin is, that if this is the best they can do in Washington, we have a free hand in the Ukraine.” Bolton added that Psaki’s unserious approach to her job can “actually cause harm.”
John Bolton has spent most of his adult life in and around United States foreign policy.
