KGRV in McAllen reports that officers from several local law enforcement agencies have personnel on the Hidalgo International Bridge this afternoon. They are there due to reports that a large group of individuals, said to be between 300 and 1,000 people, is in Reynosa, Mexico, across the Rio Grande from McAllen, Texas.
The group is reportedly from Central America, and intends to march across the bridge into Texas to seek political asylum in the United States. No country of origin is given in the report.
KGRV reports that extra Border Patrol agents are joined by McAllen police, Hidalgo police and Hidalgo County sheriff deputies.
The live camera feed from the Hidalgo International Bridge does not show any heavy traffic or unusual activity at the moment. The camera that normally shows traffic on the bridge from Mexico into Hidalgo County appears to be malfunctioning or cut off.
