IRS honcho Lois Lerner appeared before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee today, but she didn’t say anything. Nine months after pleading the Fifth Amendment, Lerner pled the Fifth again.

At that point, Chairman Darrell Issa adjourned the meeting. Sparks flew when Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings became enraged, not at Lerner for refusing to testify, but at Issa for adjourning the meeting. Cummings began delivering an opening statement, but the hearing’s opening statements had been delivered months ago, the first time Lerner refused to testify. He was speaking into dead mics, because the meeting had been adjourned.

Reporters asked Issa whether the committee would hold Lerner in contempt. He replied that that’s a possibility.

Another reporter asked Issa how much of the hearing was purely political, and an enraged Issa heatedly reminded reporters that President Obama was initially outraged by the scandal, but has since declared that there is “not a smidgen of corruption” in it.

“Roads lead to Ms. Lerner,” Issa told reporters. He said that with her testimony, the committee might have been able to bring the investigation to a close. But her refusal, again, sets the investigation back. Issa said that he is looking at what steps to take going forward in the investigation. He rated Lerner’s testimony might have to be forced through a federal judicial decision.

Update: Issa attempted to ask Lerner specific questions about her own emails. He asked Lerner why, in one email, she described the Tea Party cases as “dangerous,” and in another, she specifically said that the IRS Cincinnati office should not have the Tea Party cases. Lerner refused to answer, invoking the Fifth Amendment.

Update: Video of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) launching into a tirade against Issa, and having his mic cut off. Throughout the investigation, Cummings has run interference for the IRS and the Obama administration. Watch video on next page.

I had hoped the White House would quit issuing death threats to potential 'enemies' - that churlish behavior just isn't dignified.

That a so-called "Federal civil servant" can refuse to answer the questions of a Congressional investigating committee about an unclassified matter should automatically and irrevocably entail the stripping of that "civil servant's" pension and retirement benefits.

If Lois Lerner, or any other stooge who has eaten other peoples' taxes for a living wants to invoke the Fifth, then her future should be that of a bag-lady, pushing a shopping cart full of her belongings to and fro.

When one signs up in the Military or Naval Services of the United States, one voluntarily surrenders many of one's Constitutional civil rights...why should it be any different for those who voluntarily join the Civil Service?

Ask her why, if her boss has assured us on live tv that there's not a smidgen of corruption, she's invoking the Fifth Amendment. The Fifth doesn't protect you against embarrassing revelations, only criminal ones.

It does not hurt to let Lerner yet again take the 5th, putting the lie to Obamas not a smidgeon claim.

I think at this point that we can assume Lerner has been informed by WH staff that Obama will issue her a full and unqualified pardon at the end of his term so long as she keeps her mouth shut for the duration. After receiving a pardon, she can never be prosecuted for anything she may have done or have been party to.

There is no shame, no consequences for one's actions in Washington DC. Everything is cooool as long as it furthers the interests of the oligarchy. This woman isn't the problem...she is, however, a HUGE symptom of a spreading cancer. And, the American people (those not texting in a zombie like state) realize the travesty committed in their name as the oligarchs invoke the false god called "democracy." Levin is correct...the states will need to re-exert themselves...somehow.

Has anyone counted the money in her petty cash drawer?

Cummings? Be careful of criticisms. Remember, Ole Lije is beloved of the Emperor Moon and lent his aid several years ago by carrying the Emperor's Crown in and Official House procession.

At some point, even the racists on the left are going to have to recognize that some of our elected minorities really are dumb, lazy, crooked and racist.

This is the M.O. for anyone in this administration. If you're caught in a lie, stall, stall, and stall again, until maybe it will go away.

And I, for one, will be overjoyed when we finally see the back end of that useless old fool Cummings.

The best part of the hearing was when Issa cut off Cummings' mic. Hilarious! Issa is telling the participants to leave, "we're adjourned", Cummings is trying to talk, the people in the audience start yelling "shame!", Issa keeps trying to walk out, presumably to make fund raising calls or plan an arson somewhere, Issa finally walks out. Issa sure showed that uppity man who's boss! Darrell Issa for Inquisitor in Chief! Its a pity we can't yank fingernails or throw them in the water to see if they float.

The witness completely refused to cooperate, so it was useless to continue the hearing, and was right to adjourn. Any why should he let that blowhard cummings waste everybodies time making another partisan speech, he can do it to the reporters outside as people leave.

This has now become the mother of all scandals. Looks good on ya Barack. We know that you know, and that you knew.
I think that he chose the correct word to introduce the title for his main bio, "Audacity"...

Cummings needs to explain why he feels it is necessary to defend the IRS rather the the citizens of the US. I would love to hear how he answers that one.
