This may be the most awful tweet by a major political figure in the history of Twitter. Samantha Power is the US ambassador to the United Nations. Sunday, she tweeted this:

Um, what?

Daniel Pearl was a Wall Street Journal reporter, kidnapped and beheaded because he was Jewish, and also because he was American. He was on his way to interview a radical Pakistani Islamic cleric when he was taken against his will on January 23, 2002. His captors sawed his head off on camera, chanting “Allahu Ackbar!” while they killed him. His dismembered body was later found buried on property that belonged to an Islamic charity.

In what universe does Pearl’s murder have anything to do with what Power says? In what universe was it part of any “cycle of violence”? Pearl was a reporter. In what universe did his kidnapping and killing have anything at all to do with “individual accountability”? What does that even mean in this context?

People can say what they will about the Religion of Peace, but neither Jesus nor Buddha ever put anyone to the sword for not "submitting" to the Gospel or the Dharma.

Muhammad married a 7 year old girl, and raped her at 9. Plus, Muhammad was known to raid caravans, rape, and murder by cutting off heads.

Is that the cycle of violence the UN Ambassador is writing about breaking?

She's one of the worst governmental appointments since Caligula appointed his horse a proconsul. And at least Caligula nominated the whole horse.

Daniel Pearl's story is a reminder that Muslim fanatics can kidnap and murder innocent Americans anytime they choose, and that the only way we can stop them is by tracking down and killing every last Muslim fanatic on the face of the planet. This is a huge task, and probably unattainable in practice, but we ought to give it the old college try. As for Powers' lefty psycho-babble...spare me.

"...individual accountability & reconciliation are required to break cycles of violence."

Writing "individual accountability & reconciliation are required to break cycles of violence" is a perfectly Orwellian sentence. It refutes what it asserts. There can be no individual accountability within such a scenario, nor is there in the world of PC. Morality is a question of skin and gender - that's the cycle.

It is typical of the doublethink of liberalism where they confuse identity with morality and immorality; it constitutes a break with reality, reason and logic.

Please tell me again there is no such thing as Orwellian political correctness that is a perceptual trap for the weak-minded do-gooder, and which allies itself with bigots and those with mental health issues in order to present the trifecta of the Orwellian anti-bigot bigot.

Why not just say Pearl's murder was an act of equal rights? In a welter of the confusion of the liberal intellectual and philosophical space shared with the KKK and neo-Nazis now presented in a new and improved format by girls with pig-tails, and concerns about wheel-chair access and allergies to scented products, she just did.

"It refutes what it asserts." Well said. Who needs Derrida when your sentences simply deconstruct themselves?

Aside from the logical inconsistency between the notion of "individual accountability" and that of [impersonal, subject-less] "cycles of violence," there is another sense in which Power's statement is self-refuting: To resort to the flaccid and facile rhetoric of "cycles of violence" is already to have abdicated one's own "individual accountability" as a policy analyst and as a prose stylist.

Let me get this straight: If one uses the words "cycles of violence", just uses the words!, that alone is a complete abdication of personal accountability, and by proxy renders any statement henceforth uttered untrue.

Deep thoughts! About half a micron deep.

Methinks you should put down the "prose stylings" for a bit and strongly consider some remediation of your very "flaccid" logical thinking, Mr. Liberal Arts.

Right. Ms. Power, not having any friends or loved ones whose heads have been sawed off on video by terrorists, is able to stand aloof from the conflict and consider both sides of the question. Can we really say Daniel Perl didn't have it coming? After all...Palestine, right? Who are we to judge?

Sick.

I knew she was a loathsome toad, but this boggles my mind.

We know who's accountable for his death. What's to reconcile? Is she implying that he was killed because Israel has not ceased to exist?
