The United States government under Barack Obama is unmoored from reality and the law. The president’s twitter feed had this to say about Obamacare Tuesday:
“Not only are premiums lower than they were, they’re lower than the most optimistic predictions.” —President Obama on Obamacare #CGI2013
— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) September 24, 2013
This simply is not true. Some blue states that already have government mandates and other features of Obamacare could see premiums decrease, but most states have not adopted the blue state big government model and their citizens will see increases. Some of those are already proving to be dramatic and unaffordable, and are tied directly to Obamacare. Corporations and Big Labor, along with Congress, have gotten exemptions from Obamacare that the average citizen has not been granted.
But Obama just doesn’t care.
As Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas shatters the record for the longest Senate speech of the year to stop Obamacare’s looming implementation, Secretary of State John Kerry is set to sign the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. The treaty is supposed to deal with the international arms trade, but provisions within it may threaten Second Amendment rights inside the US.
The US Senate, charged by the US Constitution with the power to vote treaties up or down, has no intention of ratifying the UN ATT. It takes a two-thirds majority in the Senate to ratify treaties. A majority of senators are against the UN ATT.That should kill the treaty.
But the Obama government is lawless.
Kerry, who is in New York attending the U.N. General Assembly session, announced earlier this year that the administration planned to sign the treaty.
The Obama government has been caught transferring arms across an international border to the drug cartels in Mexico. It has also transferred arms to the rebels in Syria, some of whom are jihadist terrorists. So the Obama government’s moral authority in this area is suspect, to say the least.
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) has written a letter warning the Obama government not to sign the treaty without Senate approval. The Obama government’s response, so far, amounts to “But what are you gonna do about it?”
If Kerry signs that treaty without the Senate’s advice and consent, he should be removed from office*. But as long as Harry Reid controls the Senate, nothing will be done about it. Reid is Obama’s means of blocking any action against him in the Senate, effectively hacking the Constitution and undermining the rule of law.
UDPATE: Kerry has signed the treaty, which has nowhere near the two-thirds Senate majority needed to ratify it.
*That was a hasty remark. Administrations have signed many treaties that have then failed to get ratified. Such treaties have no force and some of them have eventually been withdrawn from consideration. If the administration behaves as if the treaty has been ratified, and especially if it uses that treaty in any way to move against the Second Amendment, then it’s a whole new ball game.
