Guy Benson at Townhall reports that Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus is standing with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Cruz is speaking on Obamacare ahead of its full implementation on October 1 and the nation’s reaching the debt ceiling on the same date.

Recognizing that the speech is likely to fail, for procedural reasons and also due to the fact that the Democrats are united in preserving the president’s signature, unpopular and job-killing law, Priebus nonetheless is launching a petition to support Cruz.

SUBJECT: I stand with Ted

In a fight between Harry Reid and Ted Cruz, I will stand with Ted Cruz any day.

Today, Senator Cruz has taken the fight to defund ObamaCare to the Senate floor. I hope you will join me in standing with him in solidarity.

As Republicans, we must remain true to our principles and fight to protect the American people from this reckless law.

55% of Americans disapprove of the manner in which ObamaCare is being implemented, yet Harry Reid and Senate Democrats continue to defend it, even at the expense of keeping the government running.

Harry Reid may think ObamaCare “has been wonderful for America.” But the facts are on our side – ObamaCare is costing Americans higher taxes, fewer jobs, and less access to care.

Join me and stand with Ted today. Sign our pledge and tell Harry Reid to defund ObamaCare immediately!

- Reince Priebus

The Republican Establishment sure seems to be working overtime to make Ted Cruz look like the leader they don't want him to be.

I'm sure his counterpart John Cornyn thought it was also futile for Cruz to host several townhall meetings in my very blue Texas district during the recess too. But, you know what.... those events were standing room only, and everyone in town is still talking about them.

It sucks when you're Reps and Senators just toss in the towel when it comes to supporting the interests of their constituents.

And by golly..... Ted Cruz makes us all feel like even if we get our asses handed to that at least we showed up for the fight.

Senator Cornyn's offices, all of them, have been giving busy signals since 9:00 a.m. this morning. Cornyn (weasel) has brought a storm upon his head. The only office I have been able to get through to all day has been D.C. where I was told to leave a message only to find the voice mail box is full.

I understand it is the same with many Senator's offices; busy or going to voice mail with full boxes.

News flash, Harry Reid; we Texans sent a Cruz missile your way and we are not going to stop until you are long gone.

Why? Preibus represents the establishment. I don't understand this. The concept is so incongruous, it's like reading gibberish.

It's easy for Rinse Priebus to "support" Cruz here. He knows the Obamacare filibuster won't be successful. If there was any chance it would be successful he would be running the other way just like Mitch McConnell & John Cornyn. He sees the backlash this is generating & he wants to keep cowards like McConnell & Cornyn in their seat come next election.

This. The reaction of the base to McConnell and Cornyn siding with the enemies of the Constitution has been ... impressive. And not at all favorable to the Institutional Republicans, which group may have just finally terminally pissed off said base. This is clumsy and incompetent damage control.

Maybe it is the time to start a SECOND party.
