Accountability Review Board member Admiral Mike Mullen admitted Thursday that a “hold in place” order was given during the assault on a U.S. State Department facility in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. Mullen made the admission while testifying that no “stand down” order was given.

Testifying before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Admiral Mike Mullen said that the direction given to Special Operations Command Africa commander Lt. Col Gibson was to “hold in place” on the night of the attacks.

Gibson is the boss of Gregory Hicks, the former deputy chief of mission in Libya who had testified that a “stand down” order was given to Special Forces who wanted to help Americans who were under assault in Libya.

Mullen’s Accountability Review Board never interviewed Hillary Clinton, who headed the State Department at the time of the attack.

President Obama’s whereabouts and actions during the attack are among the questions regarding Benghazi that have never been answered.

Also on Thursday, parents of two of the four Americans killed in the attack testified that the president and several other senior administration officials lied to them about the origins of the attack.

The difference between being ordered to "Stand Down" or being ordered to "Hold in Place" is like the difference between being short and being vertically challanged.

Who gave the order ?
Why ?
At what time exactly ?

I see a pattern here. Less than one year later, the same administration tried to order THE EGYPTIAN ARMY to stand down. To protect the same islamists that it had protected in Benghazi.

We have an administration actively protecting the islamists.

The "AccountaBillery Review" is comparative to the cops not interviewing the rapists. So shameful that men that served in the United States military would take such careless actions. I expect shameless actions from Hillary Clinton and her democrat colleagues, but not of men who wore the uniform.

The president and Secretary of State should be held as treasonous, and suffer the
punishment for the Benghazi misfortune. No less. No more excuses. No more tired lies. The "people" are getting angry. The world is laughing at the bungling of our
"leaders." And there's nowhere left for them to hide. Perhaps if they'd let the truth
be known, the blame be placed, closure to happen for those who mourn, compassion would help their case.

The way it's going, Putin will be the next Pres of the US. And we will all be OK with that, except for that habit he has of tearing off his shirt anytime he's on a horse.

Names please: Name the person or persons that gave the order. Where did the order originate? How high up the chain of command does this reach?

Obama said his orders, on earning of the attack, were to do "everything possible to secure the Americans involved". How did those orders morph into "hold in place"?

Apparently, Obama went to bed before learning the outcome of the battle, or that nothing was being done to help the Americans under attack. I can't picture any American President in history behaving that way. But then, Obama is like no other President in American history.

I wonder if it was what you might call "Mogadishu Syndrome?" The fear that sending in a rescue team will only make things worse - e.g., the rescuers end up having to be rescued or they all get killed along with hundreds of local militia and civilians. Wouldn't want to turn a "minor" incident into a "major" incident. I can imagine great diplomatic/political/ass-covering minds thinking that way. But who knows?

"What difference does it make?" Well Madam Secretary, it made a really big difference to the human beings who, while in your employ, were murdered when they could have possibly been saved. Including the ambassador who was tortured, killed and whose body was sodomized in the street.

Commenters here need to calm down.

A "Hold In Place" order is a BIG difference from a "Stand Down" Order.

Difference being somebody would have had to have the balls to order a rescue mission in the first place if the "Stand Down" order had been issued.

Since the Department of Defense appears to not have anyone with such balls, a "Hold In Place" order was perfectly appropriate.

Actually, "stand down" is now being officially changed to "lead from behind".

And, full out attack is being changed to "pinprick them at will".

So, if someone is told to "hold in place" and the "place" where they are is NOT where the action is happening, how is that order any different from a "stand down" order ?

Just saying. . .

And politicians MAKE ME SICK with their "word parsing" and "lie by omission".
