Virginia Democrat gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe’s campaign held a media conference call with Planned Parenthood today. On the call, Planned Parenthood chief Cecile Richards described GOP gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli as “anti-woman” and the Republicans as “extreme.” Richards did not mention the recent case in Texas, in which Planned Parenthood was found to have committed Medicaid fraud and had to pay the state $1.4 million.

McAuliffe’s campaign and the Virginia Democratic Party co-hosted the abortion-focused call, during which Planned Parenthood’s Richards and two Democrats used extreme rhetoric to attack the state’s Republicans. But Planned Parenthood just lost a major vote in Texas on late-term abortion and clinic health standards. Billion-dollar corporate welfare recipient Planned Parenthood claimed during the heated debate that its clinics should not be held to the standards of other ambulatory surgical centers. Planned Parenthood activists chanted “Hail Satan” during that debate, and some attempted to smuggle jars of urine and feces into the Texas capitol. The bill enjoyed majority support across Texas as do bans on late-term abortion enjoy majority support across the nation, but Planned Parenthood labels support for such bans, in Texas and Virginia and elsewhere, as “extreme.”

The call was organized for the McAuliffe campaign by the Democratic Party of Virginia. McAuliffe himself did not appear to be on the call.
