Late Tuesday we reported that several lefty bloggers known to be very close to the Obama White House were in fact meeting in the White House. The meeting came a day ahead of hearings in which IRS official Lois Lerner invoked her Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination and refused to testify to the House Government Oversight and Reform Committee. Lerner even refused to testify about her own previous statements on the IRS abuse scandal.

Today, we may be seeing the results of that Tuesday afternoon confab at the White House.

The synchronicity is striking.

It’s also an indication of just how worried the White House is, and how it intends to contain the scandal. First, get reliably friendly bloggers and columnists on board with a story that focuses attention away from the White House. Then, isolate and target someone who has already become a central figure in the scandal and, more importantly, who does not work directly for the White House. Finally, make it appear as if these reliably friendly bloggers actually take the IRS scandal seriously, so they become voices in the larger media advocating for a strong response — just strong enough to look decisive, while keeping the White House outside the main storyline.

Don't forget that the National Treasury Employees' Union played a direct role in all of this. There is a bucket load of WH logs showing the president of that union had multiple meetings with not only Obozo but also many members of the WH staff between 2010 and 2012.

"JournoList" That's funny. If they're attending off-the-record conclaves at the behest of The Anointed One, they are not journalists - they are the Ministry of Propaganda.

Heck, start with the fact that the "Southern Strategy" itself is a myth.

Now you know why she took the Fifth. She wants to protect herself from being the fall guy, the patsy for this Administration. Give her limited immunity from prosecution and let 'er rip.

But since pleading the Fifth also makes everyone assume she is guilty, it plays into the administrations plans if she doesn't spill the beans.

I hate to say it, but this needs a special prosecutor--the only way to unwind a criminal conspiracy is to start at the bottom and squeeze them until they give up the next layer above them.

Anyone with even half a brain knows thias had to come from the White House, career bureaucrats don't do things like this unless they are confident they have protection if it blows up. Obama may have been smart enough to keep a layer of deniability, maybe two--but can anyone believe that Jarrett or Axelrod or Plouffe didn't know, if not personally give the green light?

Didn't work for Whitewater because Susan McDougall knew Clinton would pardon her and she outwaited everyone until the pardon came rolling out at the end of his term, so there are no gurantees. But no other approach can get within a million miles of the truth.

Lerner has hired a very, very good lawyer. The WH may find that it is a little more challenging than they think to make her the goat.

I agree. I think the whistleblowers coming forward and the other damning evidence of corruption is emboldening people like Lerner to fight being thrown under the bus. When the victims are isolated and ostracized it's easy to intimidate them, but you have people like Marshall coming forward from State, and Hicks and others who are saying, "Whoa, I'm not just going to sit here and take it." There is strength in numbers and that is not good for Obama.

I hope Carney (or whoever delivered their marching orders) at least gave them a reacharound before sending them on their way....
