Obama: Hey, I Can't Comment on Gosnell Because It's an 'Active Trial'

Today, President Obama gave his first comments on the trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell is accused of murdering babies born during the process of performing late-term abortions on them in what amounted to a charnel house in Pennsylvania. The trial has exposed not only Gosnell’s horrid practices, which included using an untrained teenager to perform medical services and keeping the feet of aborted babies in jars, but also exposed the fact that his practice of performing late-term abortions for cash was well-known among abortion clinics all over the eastern seaboard.

The grisly trial is starting to gain national attention despite the mainstream media’s inattention to it.

Barack Obama, though, has no comment on it.

SAVANNAH GUTHRIE, NBC: Have you been watching the Gosnell trial? It’s a Philadelphia abortion doctor accused of gruesome crimes. Are you following it and do you think it animates a larger debate about abortion in this country?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, I am familiar with it. I can’t comment on it because it’s an active trial. What I can say is this: I think President Clinton said it pretty well when he said, ‘abortion should be safe, legal and rare.’

If an individual carrying out an abortion, operating a clinic, or doing anything else is violating medical ethics, violating the law, then they should be prosecuted.

The same president who claims that he cannot comment on an “active trial” commented on the Trayvon Martin shooting at light speed, even declaring that Martin looked like the son Obama never had.

Obama was very quick, also, to accuse Boston police of “acting stupidly” in 2009, before all the facts of that situation were in.

Obama showed much more passion in his remarks today, following the failure of his gun control bill, than he showed in the interview with Guthrie regarding the serial killing of what may turn out to be hundreds of infants.

When he served in the Illinois Senate, Obama fought against a bill that would have protected infants born in situations similar to those in Gosnell’s clinic. A tough, watchdog media would ask Obama what he thinks about Gosnell in light of his own past battle against protecting babies. But no one in the mainstream media will dare make that connection.
