Here’s your daily dose of hopenchange, courtesy of the New York Times:
“You got to stretch what you got,” said Mr. Phillips, 51, a front-desk clerk and maintenance man for a nonprofit housing group who earned $22,000 last year. “That little $20 or $30 affects you, especially if you’re just making enough money to stay above water.” So he has taken to juggling bills, skipping a payment on one this month and another next month.
“I’m playing catch-up each month,” he said. “You go to the supermarket and you can’t spend what you used to.”
Phillips was barely making ends meet before his payroll taxes went up two percentage points at the first of the year. At some point, Phillips may wise up that it’s easier (and sometimes more comfortable) to be on welfare than it is to be a member of the working poor. We can debate all day whether that’s a bug or a feature of Obamanomics, but the end result is the same.
The VodkaWife and I have taken to spending less and saving more. And more of what we do spend is on emergency supplies for the VodkaBunker downstairs. Life has lost some of its fun, but we’re both sleeping better.
Well, that last bit might be explained by the fact that our alcohol budget went up.
Sign “O” the times, my friend.

Sobieski vodka is partially owned by Bruce Willis, and he is also its spokesperson—and he defends Second Amendment rights.
Consider me a customer from now on.
THANK YOU !
Bruce Willis will get really rich now that I know about this !
I can completely empathize with that guy. I wasn’t a big fan of the payroll tax cut but that little bit did help. However, I’m not complaining that it had to go away. What I will complain about, though, is the new $50 per paycheck surcharge I’m charged because my wife has access to health insurance effective January 1. I was never charged it before but now, thanks to Obamacare, my employer is getting a bit antsy about covering too many people under its health benefit. That $100 a month is 1/6 my monthly grocery bill or two tanks of gas.
But we had to have Obama as President not once but twice.
This can’t be right. For ten years, I heard the Bush tax cuts only helped the rich. But then again, that was before the fiscal cliff became a cliff and suddenly not keeping the evil Bush tax cuts would kill the Middle Class. Apparently, nobody in the media noticed the disconnect.
So all I’ve got to say to those who just watched their FICA restored to 2010 levels and voted for Dear Leader Obama.
You’ll just have to use your huge Obamacare savings to offset the rise in your FICA. Look at it as helping out granny going over the side of the mountain. {snicker}
Live it rubes. You haven’t even felt the big squeeze yet when Dear Leader gets done squeezing you.
They noticed the disconnect. They also know they’re only hiding it from the LIVs.
‘What Difference, At This Point, Does It Make’ ?
If the republicans were smart, they’d be running ads on tv right now complete with video clips of the democrats speaking in favor of this tax increase.
Not holding my breath til that happens….
invest in alcohol. in good times, people drink. in bad times, people drink more.
